I've decided to finally give up the fags once and for all and so far things are going well.

I've been off them for just over two weeks now and I'm pretty much alright.

Well, apart from the fact that in the last week or so I can't stop coughing and bringing up stacks of yellow lumpy phlemy bits.

Now I don't know if this is just something else that is happening at the same time as me quitting or if the two are related. If they are related though, how long can I look forward to bringing up what is now lovingly refered to as "lung butter"? I've been coughing so much I think I've pulled a muscle in my back!

Should stop right about now. I quit smoking 3 days before I went on holiday. My holiday was ruined by phlegm.

Yep, that's pretty much how the lung butter arrives!!!

I've got quite good at flobbing it out the car window.

Don't worry, I do check for overtaking bikers first. It's not something you'd like to hit your visor while overtaking!

Well,

Coughing seems to be getting better. Finally made it through a full nights sleep without waking up coughing a lung up at some point. That said I don't feel any better.

Still managed to stick with it so far. Things have been a bit tricky as the wife has caved and started smoking again, which means that there are fags back in the house.

I've not wanted to use patches or gum or the like. I am however grazing on polo's like you wouldn't believe. I don't think they are doing my guts much good though.

I'll stay with it for the time being. The amount of times that I would happily feed a room full of people through a woodchipper just to get a ciggie as a reward seem to be getting less which can only be a good thing.

Well done for getting through the toughest bit! Pity the same can't be said for you wife. I hope you manage to perservere, although it is always much harder when you live with someone who smokes.

I quit when I had a bout of flu, as I hardly had the lung power to draw on one, let alone enjoy it. Hard to say whether the snot I was coughing up was from the illness or the smoking, but it was over in a couple of weeks. It's been 12 years now, but there's still the odd occasion I crave one.

I have been off tghem months and no lung probs?? first time I gave up I couldnt breath and was drinking cough meds and choking! bloody horrible. I failed then but I blame that on the patch making me so unwell.
I went cold turkey and it was nothing like the firts time. I feel calmer, no anxiety!,no phelgm, I can actually breath now! cant stop eating though but its not as bad as it was. I caught two really bad flues in the 6 weeks I gave up the first time and I was so dam ill!

I have the will power now because of my son so thats enough for me to stay off them.

Even though I have woken up a few times craving one Mad Its horrible that. Someone said to me you never stop craving them. Cunts who just dot like to see someone succeed Rolling Eyes

good luck anyway, stock the fridge up.

I smoked roll ups by the way. I dont seem to have got it as bad as the first time.

I wish Darren would give up he stinks and kissing him makes me feel like I ate an ashtray Sick

I quit last september, started with the patches, but got fed up so just stopped using them after 2 weeks as I found I was just having a crafty smoke or in the evenings to top up the nicotine from the patches lol.
So went with nothing and it worked much better. Don't remember coughing up any shite from my lungs so I guess it just got absorbed instead...I never really had any bad cravings this time (was my fourth attempt) and now almost a year later I still have none..until I sleep...I keep dreaming about smoking!

The lung butter is your lungs cleansing themselves. They have finally been spared the constant onslaught of tar, ash and shite so they are desperately trying to return to normal. Smile

Seriously though, don't try to be all manly and refuse any aides. Go for something like the inhalator thing that mimics the hand-mouth-nicotine action of fags. That thing helped me no end (should be able to get it cheap on a prescription as well).

Also, I'd banish the Mrs from the house when smoking if you haven't already. Just becuase she is weak shouldn't mean you have to sit and watch her smoke, jeapordising your sucess of quitting.

Remember the only reason you want a fag is becuase you had the last one. Break the chain and you'll be free!

I am VERY addicted to coke... Easily 2 litres a day. I'm having a can as we speak Laughing
And smoking... I can't say I want to stop, but it'd be nice to be able to just have one after lunch, after dinner, and with a beer. Am currently on a pack a day, age 19. What will I be doing at 40 if I don't regulate now? Surprised

Yep, always nice when people start this 'you'l feel much better for quitting' hobby horse.

As said, a good 2 weeks of death before you start feeling normal.

I was thinking of quitting before going to South Africa, and this post has reminded me to do it a bit early, so thanks for that Thumbs Up

Will have to buy in all the e-cig supplies again though Sad

God that thing is a pain in the arse.

The book that doesn't work?

200 pages of a guy telling me I don't like smoking. I do like smoking, so fail.

EDIT:
Actually, your are definitely a liar. Why would you read it if you didn't want to stop smoking?

Why would you want to stop smoking if you liked it?

I love smoking but I know it's bad for me, hence I want to stop.
If I was a heroin addict it'd be the same shit. You love it when you have it, but you don't necessarily want to love it...

Prey tell, what is it that you love about it?

The wonderful taste?
The heavenly aroma?
The agitation when you haven't had one in a while?
The need to spend money to fund your addiction?
The social stigma?
The detriment to your health?

I know it may be difficult to choose from the many benefits of smoking, but please try.

What do I love about smoking?
The sensation of finishing a really good dinner, and having a cigarette while you're digesting is unbeatable Wink
What I don't like is having a pack a day... I wish I had the strength to have 3 or 4 in a day...

The feeling of taking in a deep drag and letting it out slowly. Feels good. Doesn't feel so great when I run for more than 10 seconds though Sad
I've considered the e-cigs but the "good" ones are bloody expensive!
