Bike parking in Docklands

Hi guys, I've just got a new job working for the home office in one Churchill Place, (the Barclays building in docklands) and I was wondering if anyone knew what the bike parking was like around there.

I know that the whole Canary Wharf area is different because it's owned by a private company rather than a borough council. Any help appreciated as I dont think I can go back to public transport.......

I think the only parking now is in the underground carparks where it costs £2 per day. A couple of years ago, you could park free outside where the traffic light tree is but I think that's now been closed, so you have to park in the carparks. You need to get in by 9am, though, as it's very busy and you can only park in specific bike bays.

damn, that sucks - I'm far too used to free parking directly outside my office.

Are they active in enforcing if you just leave your bike in a sensible place the way you can in most of London?

Very active. If it starts to tick as the engine cools they'll probably call the bomb squad in...

There's bike parking at £2 in Cabot Square, the one under the shopping mall-a-like. There may well be some sort of season/works pass available.

Also, would you mind asking the next one of your colleagues to come back to 2MS to pop over and divert their phones? It's driving me up the wall!

I'll have to check that out - doubt it though, it'll no doubt be all based around green, coming to work on public transport

"Most of London"? Maybe in the burbs but not in Central London; you have to pay in Westminster, and in Camden, RBK&C and the City park in bike bays if you want to park for free. Not that you can find any spaces, but in theory...

They used to just give you a notice to tell you to pay on your way out, but apparently now they ban you after two non-payments and, presumably, clamp or tow you.

Some companies have negotiated monthly passes; you need to check your employer, who may have a private carpark anyway.

If you park a non-courier looking bike outside your office for the couple of minutes it takes to nip back upstairs to pick up something, you can easily find security guards and coppers around it, looking self-important as they're talking on their walkie talkies to find somebody to authorise blowing your bike up.
