Am I allowed to ride to MOT station with no MOT?

If it fails, can I ride it back?

You can ride to and from an MOT if you don't have one.

You can ride it back if you fail.

MOT must be pre booked. Give the mot centre your reg. You are supposed to go to one that's near where you live and take the most direct route. (by that, they mean no 300 mile round trips before the MOT) like a 1 mile difference if you choose a way that has less traffic will be ok)

I only know the rules of mainland UK.

I couldn't say what the rules are in NI or RoI.

Ok, I haven't got tax either as it ran out. I have insurance so would it be ok if I took all the stuff I need to buy tax with me to mot station, then go straight from there to post office as you can't buy tax without mot?

you can ride to the MOT & back home without MOT or tax as long as it's booked in,

it used to have to be the nearest mot station to your house but, I was told (by an mot tester) that was changed when the new online mot's started up


but, your not allowd to stop off at the post office on the way home even if it is on the way

So, even if I pass the mot, I can't buy tax without going home first, then going out in car or something to PO?!

that's about the sum of it, you are allowd to ride to a pre arranged test & back & that's it

if you stop & get off the bike at any point on your way home it counts as keeping an untaxed vehicle on the public highway,

it would only take a traffic warden to see it had no disc on (especialy if he's having a bad day) & it's off to the crusher

I was just wondering about this as I've bought a bike without MOT or tax and didn't fancy organising a trailer to take it to the test station.
