A2 TEST - MODULE 2

right, i've got my mod 1 tomorrow but that should be a piece of cake, i'm pretty nervous about my mod 2 as one of my friends failed 3 times on it.

I havent had any training for mod 2 yet but i want to make sure i know exactly what i need to do e.g lifesavers.

When do i do life saver checks, check mirrors etc? If someone could make it as simple as possible i'd appreciate it alot. Also road positioning - not too sure on that either.

Easy. Here's the process:

Mirrors - Check what you're going to do is safe
Signal - Indicate appropriately
Lifesaver to check you're not going to hit something or be hit by something
Position yourself on the road
Final lifesaver just before you turn

Mirrors should be checked at regular intervals during your ride (every 15 seconds or so?) and any time you slow up, speed down or change direction. This is the main check before you commit to something followed by a lifesaver which is more of a double check. Common examples:

1. Before you pull away always check your mirrors to ensure things are safe.
2. Before you speed up or slow down. This includes as you approach potential hazards, if you're coming up to a set of lights check your mirrors so you know that its safe to slow down or stop if you need to.
3. Before you go around a parked car or a hazard
4. Before you indicate for a turn or approach a roundabout
5. Any time you are sitting in traffic or at a junction keep checking your mirrors regularly for potential hazards.

Life savers every time you could hit / be hit by something. The key is in the name, its solely to check BEFORE you move / change direction that you're not going to hit something. This is mainly when you are changing position on the road or moving significantly off the normal riding line. Main examples:

1. Before pulling away, lifesaver to check nobody is sneaking up on you. Lifesaver in the direction you are turning (at a junction) or to the side that is appropriate (normally the left but could be the right if there is a chance for a car / bike to cut you up.
2. Before moving off the normal riding line. If you're moving over by just a foot or 2 you're OK without but if you're going to swing right out to go around a parked car you need a lifesaver to your right.
3. As you approach a roundabout carry out a lifesaver either left or right depending on which way you are going. This lifesaver covers your entrance to the roundabout unless you have to stop for more than a few seconds, if you do stop you must do another lifesaver before you pull away.
4. On a roundabout before changing lanes or exiting. Again look where the danger would be, if you're coming off tight to the left of the roundabout a car could cut in on your right and hit you so that's where you look.
5. On the approach to a junction / turn you should perform a life saver. This lifesaver must be backed up by a second lifesaver just before you commit to the turn.

You should always boss your lane, take up a central position so people know that lane is yours and to discourage them from trying to slip around you.

Before a left turn you want to check your mirrors, signal left and then do a lifesaver to your left. Once you've done that take a position to the left of your lane to close the door to cyclists or other bikes who might cut you up. Just before you turn lifesaver to your left again.

Before a right turn you can stay pretty central in your lane. Remember the mirror, signal and lifesaver but no need to move over to the right unless its an extra big lane. Again make sure you do another lifesaver before you start the turn.

Probably confused things for you even more, just remember to sell yourself to the examiner. If there is a potential danger check your mirrors, if by changing your position or turning you could get hit by a bike / car sneaking up on your then do a lifesaver.

Good luck, just keep it free and easy. Oh and apparently the examiners don't really approve of you popping a wheelie on your way out of the test center but I'd already passed so fuck them

I'm sure the more experienced guys on here will have different opinions but this is what I was taught recently when doing my DAS and I didn't get any minors so must have been doing something right.
