DO NOT HAVE V5 DOCUMENT BUT I WANT TO TAX MY NEW BIKE

i've just bought a new bike but the seller did not have the v5 document.

i know i need to go to the post office to get a vehicle registration form but can i still tax the bike if i currently have no documents showing that the bike is actually mine?

if so what documents do i need to take to the post office? insurance certificate and MOT certificate, what else?

he gave me the MOT certificates and the new keeper supplement slip stating what the bike is etc, but the person he bought it off never sent off the forms. He has only used it as a track bike for the past year so it has been declared as sorn. The bloke owns a bike shop and i know him personally so i trust what he says

sorted, he's taxing it on his company tax or something and i've got hold of a v62 so i can apply for a v5

Yep, it's easy. You don't need the new keepers slip. You just need to supply all your details to the DVLA and pay an admin fee of £30 or so IIRC.

Remember the V5 is a keepers suppliment, not a certificate of ownership.

Ideally you should have done an HPI check and got a sales receipt for the bike. They're more important than the V5.
