a shit load to fix.
Gearbox problems are cheaper to buy a 2nd hand engine.

depends...if it's the clutch thats gone, then it's straight forward...new plates, possibly. If the cogs have been worn down to nothing then a new gear box might be needed. Check it out first. I'm not too sure how old an L reg is as we don't use letter verification on vehicular ages. But £525 seems alright...Try knocking it down to £500. Maybe lower.

Cheers.

Hi

Value depends on the condition of the rest of the bike. If it just jumps out of gear then it is quite possibly just the clutch. A 2nd hand engine would be around £300~£500, but if the barrel on the existing engine is good that alone is worth £100 of that cost.

At that age make sure you get a Rotax 123 engine. A few years after that they moved to the Rotax 122 which has a different front engine mount and ignition system. Also make sure you don't get an engine from a Red Rose custom bike as the gear change is reversed due to the different linkage. In an RS you would land up with 1 up and 5 down!.

For Rotax engine spares speak to Peter Knight on 0176 141 4106. He is very friendly and helpful, and cheaper than Aprilia.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Yes a racing box. Just imagine how many engines you will blow up getting your gear changes wrong while thrashing the engine.

By the way, if anyone sees a Red Rose / Classic engine for sale in a breakers yard for reasonable money let me know. It should fit nicely into the early AF1s which didn't have a linkage to the gearbox so the change would be the right way round.

All the best

Keith

I think that L-reg is actually 1994, but obviously runs over to 1995 until the M-reg came out.
