My brother is after selling his car and getting an Aprilia SX125. Declaring his convictions on confused.com, the cheapest quote works out at £3,000 ish with one quoting £11,000 hahaha

Anyway, his insurance company said they will do it for £1000 which is still pretty steep.

Anyone else got convictions or with an insurance company that specialises in getting policies for people with them?

Brick Wall Brick Wall Brick Wall Brick Wall

Phone around lots of different insurance companies then play the cheapest ones off against each other. Oh yeah, and online quotes are generally a waste of time.

He probably also got fined for his crimes - leaving him with no money to pay for insurance. Shocked Sucks to be him

tbh, if I had all of those convictions I'd not drive for the next 5 years, purely because of the insurance cost...

Surely he'd get jail time for those convictions?

no sympathy but just ring round, plenty of companies out there to try.

He was 17 at the time, no previous convictions or brushings with the law. He's 21 now, next year he won't have to declare them but for now he does.

I wouldn't bother declaring it. It's not something they would check.

If he doesn't declare them, his insurance is void anyway so he might as well ride it un-insured because if he crashed into someone, his insurance company wouldn't pay out, they would find out his convictions and he would have to pay for the damage to the other vehicle as well. Not to mention any claims they might make.

Not always matey, insurance is a vastly complex business.

I've never known an insurer check a criminal record even when it's suggested a claimant has a record.

If they were found to have a record, and they were able to cover you, it's more likely they would charge you the additional premium they would have charged had you stated that you had a record when you first took to policy out.
