RANT ALERT!!
Today I decided to take the bike to work, the first time in about three weeks. So I went to the garage and went to start the bike...turn turn die. Damn.
Not to worry, I grabbed the spare battery and whipped the side panel of the VFR connected it and it kicked straight away. Yippee I thought.
Where's the near death I hear you say.
So I get on my way and ride up through Hetton and round to go down Hazard Lane. I get just up to the turn off for East Rainton and some absolute d*ckhead in a BLACK 5 DOOR CORSA (NEWEST SHAPE) decides he won't look in my direction and just goes to pull out. Cue us both slamming the anchors on and avoiding the danger. I felt quite lucky to not have smashed into the side of him or have him smash into me.
Next up is me going up Houghton Cut and the slip road that joins. At this point there are 3 lanes and I'm in the left (as I'm in no hurry) so I needed to wait for a BLUE BMW 1 SERIES to overtake before I could change lanes to avoid getting smashed into from some impatient fool coming off the slip-road. As stated I wait, check the mirrors, head-check/lifesaver, indicate, another head-check/lifesaver and begin the manoeuvre. At this point I'm not committed to the move as there are vehicles approaching from the left hand side off the slip-road. Now you're probably thinking why don't you drop a couple gears and zip past? Well I couldn't due to the traffic ahead. So the BLUE BMW 1 SERIES driver decides to hit the brakes hard to allow a van into the right hand lane, which may I point out it didn't need to be there as the it was moving freely and there was nothing ahead of it. Anyhow I slammed the brake on the avoid a collision yet I am still almost sandwiched between the van coming off the slip-road and the BLUE BMW 1 SERIES and at this point I move slightly to the left yet my foot still clips the BMW's rear left corner.
At this point I'd like to point out that in hindsight the BLUE BMW 1 SERIES incident is probably 70/30 his/her fault but I should have known better than to be in the left hand lane at the time, especially knowing the road.
On the bright side I know a lot of other bikers have been asked to remove their lids at petrol stations, which at Morrisons at Doxford Park I was not. This made me slightly happier although I was highly p*ss*d off.
To anyone who has read this thank you for taking your time to do so. Also if anyone works at Morrisons at Doxford Park I'd like to thank you and your colleagues for not being a bunch of w*nkers.
One last thing, I appreciate people will offer up opposing arguments and I do welcome these but try not to be too scathing. ____________________ Rides - '60 Plate Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.25, '03 Plate Kawasaki ZX6R B1H and an '87 VFR400 NC24

How about slowing down a bit to match the speed of the TRAFFIC joining the CARRIAGEWAY if you're stuck in the LEFT LANE?
Being on a slow 125 I have to do this all the time and never have a problem. At the end of the day you have right of way and they need to position themselves correctly to join the road. ____________________ CBT February 2008 | A2 June 2008 | Yamaha YBR125 (written off) | Honda CBF125 (current) |
