Beware, they can do more damage than they save. Thumbs Down

Totally disagree with you.... If i didn't have any fitted on the occasions I've dropped my bike, I would have fucked up my bar ends, mirrors, top fairing, seat unit... The whole shebang.

With them fitted, the only thing that touches the deck is a small area at the bottom of the fairing.

Saves your engine casings in an accident too!

Depends where they mount too really. If they are a bit of a bodge-fit, they could damage the frame. The ones on my CBR join onto a heavily reinforced section of the frame, so they work lovely.

Not a lot of point on an NSR to be honest. The engine doesn't stick out far enough to be damaged in an accident, and the bike is light enough to be saved by the fairings.

The crash mushrooms will not save the fairings. They are designed to prevent engine case and sometimes frame damage.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Crash bungs I see as -

Saving damage to fairings if bike is dropped stationary, while moving it out of a garage or something.

If you crash at highspeed, your likely to do damage, sometimes bungs might help, sometimes they might make it worse.

I know that I'm more likely to damage my bike moving it about, or getting on and off than coming off, so therefore, they make sense for me.

On an NSR...no point really, parts will be cheap, and grinding an engine case would likely be cheaper than bent engine mountings!

I would always get crash bungs, as im most likely to drop the bike when stationary (Im only 5'6ish)

Dropped my bike twice, seems it only hits the brake lever, exhaust can a little and perhaps the footpeg, no paintwork damage Thumbs Up

its wasnt for protecting the engine i have came of once that was in the wet adn i put it under a X5 and then droped it twice i know the fairings are cheap but would be easier than replacing them.

Came off recently with BSD race bungs on. Saved the engine, and did as the guy said they would. The bolt's are made from a soft steel, so bend in a crash and dont snap mounting points.

Thumbs Up for BSD

I would always put R&Gs on any bike I have from now on, but they aren't a 'fool proof' solution to crashes. I had a CBR125 once which went over on it's left side, no protectors, but the fairings/engine didn't even touch the ground.

Below is the aftermath from a 25mph off (locked front wheel) on my CBR.

You will see the crash protector snapped off and took part of the fairing with it (it snapped at the frame, rather than the allen bolt which I beleive is where it's designed to break) my bike continued to slide down the road on the fairing which cushoined the frame/engine.

I would also like to point out that my exhaust held up fantastically and seemed to take the brunt of the slid after the protector had snapped, further preventing critical damage to the frame/engine. If I had a 3rd party can on, I don't think my bike would have come off so well. (It's the original Honda silencer, built like a fucking tank).

You will also see the front fairing was owned by the indicator hitting the ground and punching through the fairing, rather than breaking itself.

Note: Mudguard damage due to bike sliding under a car.

Next time I will get lower-profile indicators aswell as crash protectors. Rolling Eyes I'd also like an aftermarket can, but seeing how good a 'crash protector' the Honda one is, I'm in two minds.
