not had my bike that long bought it in bits and not had it back together to long .
finaly go the engine started ran straight away was sorting out the oil pump well priming the pump so had it ticking over sorting that, but noticed it as waiting to give it few revs but would not go past 4000rpm throttle wide open but just sat there at 4000rpm nothing more, it felt like it was really holding back , once it went higher and sounded like it should do free reving, but did not last..just few secounds??
had the carb in bits checked cleaned the jets out noting blocked seen all in order, to me its the carb but cannot see anything wrong.

so what would i check next to why wont rev more...still says its the carb but just don.t know..

also when you turn lights on the engine losses revs and ends up stalling on me....

or just a badly set up carb???

cheers in advance

Hi

Could be. In neutral it takes little throttle (or power) to rev (ie, suspect on a healthy engine only a mm of throtte would probably give that many revs). However I would suspect that it might be transitioning onto the needle so check the needle position.

Also check that the carb is standard, and not some alternative that the bike aquired while in pieces.

All the best

Keith

" However I would suspect that it might be transitioning onto the needle so check the needle position"????
you say check the needle position but how???

the needle had been attached to the wiring/ handle bars/swich gear for some time so could it be slightly bent ??it unscrews form the top of the carb...

Hi

The needle lives in the carb slide. It has a clip at the top to locate it. The clip probably has several different slots it can attach to in the needle. The closer to the sharp end then the richer the mixture, and the closer to the blunt end the leaner the mixture.

All the best

Keith
