I like to think im a pretty positive person but recently i can feel myself slipping due to lots of issues i cant seem to clear up and i think its affecting my mood and my relasionship. This may end up being a simple rant but yeah id like advice where possible.
Its mainly financial i guess with some odd situations which are making life so difficult, ill try and explain whats going on.
My set up in brief is like this, i have a car, a bike, i live at home and i have a girlfriend.
Work is very tough right now, im in a mechanical design role with about 5months of 'real' experience being given some very challenging work and some pretty optimistic deadlines, coupled with poor management and lack of motivation. To make matters worse im spending around £250 on petrol a month getting there and back.
I really find i a struggle now getting up for work, im uninterested and pretty sick of this one guy who is a complete twat most of the time to me and in a word, unfair. He is pretty much head of my department and making my working life a misery.
Ive chucked my CV out there as ive been at this job since Oct 08, so far not a lot, even in my field, i live in Cheltenham so im looking for something closer a right now my commute is about a 45 minute drive.
I dont want to give up the bike, i do so much on it, i enjoy it to the fullest still with or without my girlfriend pillion. I think if i can get a job closer i can manage but some serious cash has had to go on both vehicles being MOT's on both, consumables, tax and insurance.
Mainly my job is getting me down, and looking for more work is a big job in itself, i haven't got much time to search.....i feel shattered on fridays now and pretty uptight about what the next week will bring. It has a knock on effect with money because usually im not fussed about lack of cash but right now things are insane. My MOT for bike and car ran out at the same time and ive been struggling to keep on top of this all and im not even in my own place yet! I know it all seems to come at one time but im really not able to see a more positive near future right now.

When your job affects your state of mind it is time to move on.
In the meantime you you can afford a wage drop as long as its close to home, money lost in wages will be save on the commute costs ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "

Move on mate, been there before. you will not know how good it feels until you do. The relief is brilliant.
The longer you leave it the worse it will be, go off on the sick for a while if need be to sort your head out

I've really suffered with the bad work vibe thing so really feel for you. My advice given the present climate is two fold - look for a replacement role but most importantly in the meantime you mustn't let the current work situation drag you down.
Try not to focus on the one individual being a complete to$$er as it can get a bit out of hand in your head if you're not careful and often escalates. It's really hard to do but let's face it for lots of people work is just work and very much a means to an end (even if only just!). Try to do your best when you're there, keep your nose clean but stand up for yourself, don't let this bloke walk all over you or use you as his scape goat - keep in with the people around and above him and make sure you make notes of anything that might backfire on you in the future. When you commute each way use this time as a wind down - you're on your way home for goodness sake.
Try not to off load work cr@p on your girlfriend as you want time with her to be happy. Are your parents understanding? Can you chat with them about it instead? Otherwise threads like this use us random lot instead
Keep your chin up, try and stay positive and think about the good things you HAVE got - a job, money coming in, a good family and a roof over your head and a lovely girlfriend - lots of folk might be thinking lucky you!! ____________________ 'The core of a man's spirit comes from new experiences'

Thanks guys
I really feel uptight right now and ive never felt like this before so its obviously a bit unerving. The job hunt is hard and for the area and title it seems there isn't much which is frustrating and a bit disheartening.
It strange how right now i could seem to have everything to make me happy but just several factors mean im really not. I want to move out to get out of my parents space and also because me and the girlfriend want to get back out into our own place again. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

Mate, as you are only 5 months into your current job, and this is the career path you wish to follow...my advice would be to stick it out, for at least a year. Reason being a year in a job before moving is better on the CV. Especially in the design field.
You say you are having problems with one bloke, like Tonka suggests, try not to dwell on him, think of the fact you are doing something you enjoy, the money is going to help fund your future, and with a bit more experience under your belt you are going to be employable in the future. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

I was in a similar position to you 6 months ago.. except instead of wanting my own place, the missus got pregnant again.. i was commuting from far side of York to far side of Leeds every day (about 1 hour drive) costing £300 a month..
ended up getting a job 5 mins down the road, although it's less money, with saving so much on petrol each month, it's prob not that much less.. and i've so much more free time, more time on the bike, more time with the wife + daughter (+1 when it arrives) less stress...
i whole heartedly recommend getting a job closer to home, i imagine you'll feel 100% happier !

I earn enough, rent off a mate, have a bike etc but recently I've crashed my bike twice and seem to have accumulated a lot of debt on my creditcard and dont seem to be clawing it back. Bike is still damaged, no money to fix it.
I also want to pass my driving test and get a car because the bike isn't practical all year round. But i've got one insurance claim for my bike, which will inevitably make insurance more than it might have been. I seem to be really down about life in general at the moment, everything seems bad at the same time!
Funny thing is I am due a payrise (which will be back dated to July) I don't know how much it's going to be, only that i'm still waiting ! Regardless, I still feel like this.
Just gotta keep powering through. | This is simple. Get a 2nd job and use that as a means to balance out the bike. Motivation comes form knowing you are sorting yourself out. Hell, I wish my problems were that simple.
Mike, is there any way you can be 'honest' or 'realistic' when being set these targets and tell them it's not happening that quick - freeing up some time and pressure?
When you're with missus just try forgetting everything else, do something with her that requires your full attention and doesn't give you time to drift onto 'bad' topics. Can you afford to let the car sit it out for a month or 2? If you haven't got that to pay for right now then it's cash spare for more vital things. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies.
