You tried getting in touch with David Silver? His site doesn't list them, but if anyone can get hold of such parts, I'd imagine he can...

As far as I am aware, you have to get the restrictor fitted by an approved mechanic and they give you a certificate to say that it's been done. Without this you are still flouting the law.

Unfortunately as most mechanics realise this they charge the earth for the service, IIRC, I paid around £150 to have my CB500 restricted (and £25 to get it taken out!).

No you don't, that's just FI International's propaganda machine at work

By law the bike just has to be upto 33bhp, it doesn't say how and you don't need a certificate to prove it.

I'd be tempted to get a throttle stop made up, then get it dyno'd to check the power output. Failing that stick a wanted ad on a few forums & see if someone has a set of carb washers.

yea yo dnt actually need a certificate. as long as its 33bhp thats just fine and the law wont bother you if they dyno it and its fine.

do you know if any throttle stopper will fit any bike?? i mean throttles arent really made that different are they??

As many people tell will tel you the restriction kits from F.I international etc, are not worth the paper they are printed on as they hold no legal standing at all with the police in the u.k.,

They will make it easier if you are pulled over by the police but if the copper wants to be arsey he/she can still demand the bike be tested by the police team (the only true proof they will accept) and you can,t do choise about it,

So imho you are better off finding out the appropriate dimensions for the carb washers from some one that alrady has the kit (the dimenbsions are usualy on the cert or fitting guide) and getting some restrictors made up (probably less than a couple of quid for all four) or restricting the throttle movement with a throttle stop adjuster in the twist grip, then spending £30 or so to get a dyno print out, you can take the opportunity to get your carbs balanced etc

there is also the option of restricting the movement of the needle diaphragm slides.

I wouldn't even bother restricting the CBR400 mate.
They arent exactly that fast when they are full power.

get some plate, restirct the tits off it so it barley runs, get it dyno'd at about 22bhp, then wip them out.
If your really feeling that paranoid, send a copy to your insurance company.

Or, a simple throttle stop would be more effective, you could even make it adjustable!

I did 2 years on my restricted license (obviously). Never got pulled once while restricted.

I had 2 full power CBR400s, A Full power VFR400, A Full power TLR1000 and was also insured to ride my Dads Busa.

Never had any hassle with the feds.

Throttle stops can be made very easily, easyest way i found was to drill a hole in your throttle twist grip housing (underneath) then insert a small allen bolt, with a nut to hold it in place.
Basicly your stopping the twist grip from turning fully.

failing that, drive a self tapper through it Very Happy

Unfortunately i dont have that kind of luck, my tail light went out before on my cbr 125 when my tax was a day expired. I got pulled for driving at night and when he checked my bike over he saw my disk expired. luckily the fuzz guy was safe and all i had to do was buy it and take it to the police station.
and thanks for the help gentlemen Wink
