Bidding on a 2T kx on ebay at the moment and wondering instead of hiring a van to pick it up,could i just put it in the back of the car on it's side?

Obviously i'd have to drain the fuel but is there anything else i should do?

Same question if it was a 4T.Would i just need to drain the oil and fuel?

Thinking

Why not strap the bike so it remains stood up? This is the normal practice to be honest... Rolling Eyes

Cos it wouldn't fit!

Shouldn't do it any harm, most offroaders spend half their lives lying on their side. And it never did our ped any harm.

Cheers bendy.

I know off road bikes fall over a lot but this will be a 200 mile trip in the car.The main concern would be the gearbox oil but i'd imagine that would be fully sealed anyway?.

On a 4T would the oil leak out of somewhere if i didn't bother to drain it?

I'm just being tight really as van's are quite expensive to hire when using them for long distances. To hire a van for a day for local stuff costs about 40% less than it does for long distances.

helps if your family has a van, where u picking it up from?
The oil..there are usually breather pipes that leak, but clog up with a rag/line car with lots of rags Razz

I'd give it some time to stand upright when you get home, so if anything's moved about it has time to settle. Check the levels - though if anything's leaked out you'll probably find it soaked into the carpet in your car.

Recently had an SV650 on its side for a few hours in the garden, didn't seem to hurt it.

No problem lonewolf,i assumed that was the case Very Happy

Thanks padwax/bendy;i shall see how it goes.
It might also be possible to remove the wheels and forks and fit it in upright that way although doubtfull.Either way i'll be driving 200 miles with the bootlid bungeed down which will be fun.

Thumbs Up

Fuel and 2-stroke oil are the main concerns. I'd drain the coolant too just to be safe.

Be careful, some cars suck in exhaust fumes like there's no tomorrow when you do that. Front windows open. Thumbs Up

Its worth pricing up some of the bike delivery services. My brother had a 125 custom thing delivered from London to Birmingham for £50. If your not in a rush for it you might get a deal when they have to deliver a bike in the same area, or if your on route.

I brought a trailer off Ebay for about £70. Obviously I already had a tow bar. I've used it a dozen times to move bikes around and probably a lot more for moving junk so its paid for itself.

No, front windows closed, blower on. When the windows are open it can create a slight low pressure area in the car and the turbulent air directly behind can get sucked back. Close the front windows and use the blower to force clean air into the front.

Last time I tried to do this with a bike petrol leaked everywhere! That's got to be an MOT failure Rolling Eyes
