now i have arranged a second bike i'm ready to start the major service on the cbr and have a couple of question's.
1. as valve clearances on shim's tend to tighten rather than get bigger as tappets do, is it best to set them all to the maximum clearance or bang in the middle of tolerance?
2. what is the benefit of a cam chain tensioner holder(without stating the obvious) and do i really need one(automatic tensioner btw). ____________________ 04 NSR 125(sold) ---- 03 CBR 600rr(sold) ----90 pan euro ST1100 ' ' ----02 CG 125

I would be surprised if the clearances need adjusting but its not unheard of. 32K on my FW and still in spec ____________________ Before: Suzuki GT 185. Honda Superdream 250. Yamaha RD350LC. Suziki RG250. Yamaha FZS600. Honda CBR600F3

i have checked them twice, once at 16k and a couple of them were starting to tighten up so i checked again at 22k and they were on the edge of tolerance, the reason i didn't adjust it at this point was i needed the bike for work the next day and it took me longer than i thought to strip it down. It's now near 25k and although it still seems to run fine it's something i would rather sort before it's too late.
any idea's on the cam chain tensioner holder thing? ____________________ 04 NSR 125(sold) ---- 03 CBR 600rr(sold) ----90 pan euro ST1100 ' ' ----02 CG 125
