hi all.
as the title suggests, theres a hairline crack on the head cover on my trailie.
you cant really see it, but when you fill up the radiator, water starts to leak out, just next to the spark plug.
its not the o-ring, as thats the 1st thing i checked & its definately the head/water jacket cover.
any ideas on what would seal it?
i was thinking of covering the crack with either araldite metal or metal putty but im not sure if that would last.
any ideas?
(apart from getting another cover, as there about 30 quid second hand, if you can find one!)
cheers,
GAZ

Hi

For the MTX? Had one crack on my MBX and from vague memory they are pretty thin metal. Think there are only 2 mounting bolts (going from memory) and suspect that once cracked it would flex enough for the rubber rings not to seal it.

All the best

Keith

Hi,
yup your right Keith, its for the mtx, but for the 125 engine.
& your also right about the 2 mounting bolts (how on earth do you remember all this stuff, lol).
previous "repair" seems to have been done with silicone. Shocked
what i was thinking, was, mixing up some araldite metal & smearing a load of it all over where i think the crack is.
(you cant actually see the crack!)
both inside & out.
either that or using a bit of metal putty & covering the area with a thin "sheet" of it.
after wire brushing the paint off etc
too much of a bodge? would it hold water?
this stuffs supposed to be water proof.........
i think i have a spare cover somewhere, but its missing the herp tube & im struggling to get the tube off the damaged one!
(rounded & rusted phillips head screw, might just drill it out)
just had a thought... my brother in law is a plumber, im sure he could fabricate some sort of blanking cap/tube for the herp chamber.(gaz goes off to rummage through the big box of random honda bits)
cheers,
GAZ

Hi

The ATAC chamber cap is pretty cheap from memory. They don't last for ever (the mounting holes elongate until the cap blows off).

Trouble I would suspect is that a thin crack might be easy to seal, but the cover is under pressure and will deform more easily once cracked. Possibly worth a try though. You could also try and find a decent alloy welder to repair it but suspect it won't be easy.

All the best

Keith
