Recently got a tax disk reminder, so I went and purchased a new tax disk.

So I go to fit it and hmm, where is it, where did I put it, is it at the back, hmm...

What are those 2 bolts with nothing in them?

My rear peg and hanger , 2 bolts has only fallen off along with my tax disk and holder.

And i've never noticed, I've only given one pillion ride this year on that bike. I can't believe it, I wash the bike after every ride and check it over (or so I thought), I honestly can't believe I've never noticed.

Good job I didn't get stopped, "Where's your tax disk, hmmmmmmmm".

It must have fallen off, because I never leave the Z anywhere.

I've had a hanger bolt on the other side work its way off and I even have thread lock (that i've put on shock threads). , but obviously i've never put it on my rear peg bolts.

I feel stupid.

Can anyone better this stupidity and crap maintenance.

My only one was wondering why my left grip was coming off and realising a bar-end had made a bid for freedom.

Oh, and doing 150 miles before realising my chain had fallen off. There must have been a strong tailwind that day.

More likely it was stolen and taking the footrest hanger was easier than removing the holder on it's own.

When the guy came to look at my LC which I'm selling, he pointed out that the horn button was missing. I certainly hadn't noticed!!

Going to work the other day with top box attached to bike, arrived at work, looked at the bike and thought something was missing, it was the top box Embarassed Quick bit of backtracking and it was located on a grassy verge 2 miles back.
On close inspection, 2 brackets had come off and the remaining 2 had worked loose. The 2 must have come off earlier in my ride as a camper van was flashing me when I overtook and I spent a while wondering what had upset him as I had overtaken safely and not at any great speed. Wonder if they hit him Laughing

I've owned that many old nails over the years that there's been times when things have fallen off & I have noticed but I've been that fed up with retreiving said bits that I've just carried on & left them

the tool box lid off my old TS 125 alpine springs to mind, it was still lying in the gutter six months later when the rest of the bike was long gone (I used to see it on my way to work)

then one day it wasn't

I set off for work one chilly morning, I'd got about a mile away & I couldn't figure out why my ears were so f***ing cold when it dawned on me what I'd forgotten so I turned round & went back & there was my lid sat on the curb where I'd put it while I was unlocking the bike

I was bloody glad I lived out in the sticks that day, if that happened where I live now I doubt I'd get 200 yards before I got tugged

I went about 6 months without the cable leading from my rear brake lever to my brake light switch. Even done my test on it without the examiner noticing. By the time I remembered it was off, I'd forgetten where it was.
Replaced it with a bodge job. Garden wire is far cheaper than the official part, and essentially the same thing, boJ well done.

Best thing i bought for my bike was a torque wrench. How the oil stayed in the engine with loose bolts i'll never know.

My right footpeg dissapeared. As in, it must have fallen off when I was riding since it wasn't in my garage, but somehow I didn't notice untill next time I took it out.

A freaking footpeg Embarassed

Chain side rear wheel nut went walkies on the Shakespeare Raceway this year. I thought the back end was getting twitchy.

Tax disk, and also forgot my front brake light switch for a month.

Only noticed when i was checking it all over for the MOT, was going to check my chain when i opened my toolbox, and there was my tax disk and switch sitting on the top.

Lesson learned: Use the bike's toolkit less, use my proper one more.

I keep everything i take off the bike in that toolbox Laughing

Going to use thread lock a lot more.

Honestly can't believe I missed it. I mean a hanger and a tax disk.

You may find next time that instead of the bolts "coming loose", the tax disc will have decided to snap itself off. Thieving kids.
I'm thinking of a mechanism using the key slot used to remove the seat on my 125 to attach a tax disc that can be clicked back behind the side panel when stationary, then at a turn of the key, it flicks back out for when you want it showing. I realise there are some legal implications when parking on public highways, but every little helps.

For the purposes of the diagram, the tax disc is transparent and the pink dot is on the reverse side of the tax disc holder.

I haven't displayed tax in 4 (nearly 5) years.

I've been stopped pleeeeeeeeeeeenty. Usually being very naughty.

I even got some coppers to walk back to mine and showed them the valid tax disc. Even if not, they just send a notification to the DVLA. If it's taxed, they can't do shit Thumbs Up

That's not true, you've completed the offence of 'failing to display' your tax disk. You've just found some coppers who aren't too worried about it.

My mrs hopped on the back of my CBR the other month only to find I had no right pillion footpeg. Then I remembered it's never had one ever since I bought it. So I told her to put her foot on the stump.

Even the anal ones/those desperate to nick me have ignored it.

Worst I've had was DVLA getting informed that I wasn't displaying. Fuck all came of that.

Oh and I was riding around for some time missing the bolt to my right hand side clip on. I was wondering why the whole thing moved a bit when braking lol.

Was riding along today on the main road at about 50ish (yeh my bikes fooked, taking it in tommorow!!) Anway, heard something fall on the road, looked behind to see something bumping along the carriageway behind me and into the central reservation. I thought it was my numberplate or something so pulled over in the hard shoulder to have a look. Numberplate still there, L plates both still there, rucksack still done up with everything in it. So I thought that obviously I hadn't 'dropped' it and it had come out of a car and carried on on my way. When I got home I got off the bike and accidentally touched the exhaust, 'Ouch!!' thinks I, 'thats bloody hot!' Looked down and that was when I realised it was the heat shield that had come off and bumped down the road!! Should have loctited it on as I was advised when I bought it lol!!
