I have a bloody noisy rattle whilst the bikes ticking over after being ridden. I've only noticed it when it's sat in neutral and it disappears when I pull the clutch in. Confused

What could be this?

I have a similar thing on my CBF600. I assumed it was a noisy clutch bearing (does a bike have one - I only know about car mechanics at the moment but am learning fast).

Can anyone tell us different please?

I have a similar thing (except it persists even with the clutch in) but am assured that its the carb's that need balancing, just not go round to doing it yet.

Scouse, I spoke to a man that knows!

Apparently, inside the clutch are many plates and the noise we can hear is that of the plates vibrating against eachother - quite normal. (It stops when the lever is pulled in due to pressure this puts on the plates).

Cheers

*casts thread necromancy*

I've just noticed my new (to me) Fazer does this, but only when it's warmed up (when I start it in neutral and it's cold, it's fine). The best way I can describe the sound is like a diesel engine idling.

So the conclusion is that it's entirely normal, nothing to be worried about, just the clutch plates vibrating once they've heated up? And not the carbs?

I ask as my SV and CB never did it, nor has any other bike I've ridden, in fact the only other vehicle I've owned that did was an old Volvo 440 which made more of a chirp when in neutral at tickover with the clutch.

natural for the clutch plates rattling. On my DTR they put a damper ring on the 3rd plate. Oil choice is another factor. The silkoling light gearbox oils seem to be the best choice for me. Try a better oil in the box, see if it cures it..

Other than that,u may have a bearing on its way out.

Ive just gone threw replacing crank bearings on my motor.

I doubt it's really a problem as it has just had a 9,000 mile service... I'll look and see what they've done before I go whinging at the dealer. Thanks!

Once the clutch components get some wear in them you will get rattling. Totally normal.

When the oil is cold it is more viscous so it dampens the rattling.

As I said earlier in the thread and along time ago, park it next to a high mileage 1970s aircooled four and i doubt you will hear your clutch rattle over the older bike.

Gonna check my oil but given it just had it's service it's probably all new.

I'll just pretend it makes me sound cooler as I'm sitting at the lights. Thanks!

My ZX6 rattles when the clutch is out......then when you pull the clutch in, it has a different rattle (tap tap tap, clearances are fine though) Laughing

Has done it for 16k, so just ignored it!

My CG125 did this today for the first time ever Shocked I can assure you CG's are not supposed to do this!

So it turns out it only just had enough oil left in the thing to keep the engine turning over Shocked my Oil leak is far worse than I originally thought!
