hi

I don't know if this has been covered yet or if lots of people know, but i thought id post it on here anyway...

On the 1st September 2003 there will changes to the UK practical tests (all arears including Car, Bike and HGV).

Its basically a load of questions at the end of the test and you will get a minor for each question answered incorrectly.

check out www.dsa.gov.uk under "driving tests" for more information.

One more thing... can any one tell me how many minors your allowed to get in the motorcycle practical test before you fail?

Sorry if this has already been covered!

Thanks Daniel

Yeah same here, I actually was given a sheet of things to remember for when I got asked about them at the end of the test.

I believe that if you got them totally wrong you could fail, but if you got them slightly wrong/forgot bits you wouldn't get minor points for it.

Still I'm all for it to be honest (and totally controversial) as the better informed people are and more clue they have, the safer the roads will be. As such the new inexperienced drivers will have a little more nonce about them, and we won't be in the position we are currently further down the line with total myopic drivers and morons out to kill us all (be it in a car or on a bike!).

But (and theres always a but), obviously there will always be the odd idiot out there and we all ocasionally act the fool.

It's 15 minors to fail. 3 minors in any category equals a Major.

The practical side of the motorbike test is going to be made alot more difficult too. To be honest I can't remember what the changes are but I remember thinking I didn't like the sound of them.

Anyone else heard this?

yeah it is 15 minors and 3 catergory minors for a fail, havent heard of the changes will check it out in a minute.

The questions at the end are piss! so if you do get them wrong you deserve to fail! lol! but if they put harder and more questions for the new changes which means you fail, well it will be a little harder i suppose!

the questions i had at the end where

1) What affects the balance of the bike

2)How does a pillion passanger affect the bike

3) What may need adjusting on the bike if there is a passanger

4)Where should the pillion passanger hold

5) What should you and the passanger wear when riding the bike

6)When should the passanger get on/off the bike

i think thats it really, but again whether they add/change anything is another matter Confused

They only asked me one question and that was 'will the COG be heightened or lowered when carrying a pillion?'

I got "what should you tell a pillion before they get on the bike" and a few of those. They're meant to ask them at the end of every test anyways, it's nothing new.

Surely this is of more concern!? Shocked

I might have read it in that magazine they give you when you pass so I will try and find it at home.

Candidates will be asked two questions, one ‘show me’ and one ‘tell me’. One or both questions answered incorrectly will result in one driving fault being recorded. Examples of safety check questions for motorcycles;

Identify where

You would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient oil.
The brake fluid reservoir is and tell me how you would check that you have a safe level of hydraulic fluid.

Tell me how you would you check

The condition of the chain on this machine.
Your tyres to ensure that they are correctly inflated, have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road.

Show me how you would check

The operation of the Emergency Stop Switch
The operation of the brakes on this machine.
The steering for excessive free play.
That the lights & brake lights and reflectors are clean and working.
That the horn is working on this machine (off road only).

Nothing to worry about really.
