Seriously, I wouldn't take that shot, I'd be doing life. But if it was a 'garden plinker' you'd be right. But it's not. I make valves for shooters with FAC air-rifles, and they put 31gr .25 pellets out at 1100fps. ft/lb energy at 200yds is 25. 14ft/lb is a 100% gauranteed human-skull penetration. And I can hit a human skull-sized target at 200yds 100% of the time.

My personal rifle is, of course, totally legal. If it was tested it would deliver zero fps and zero ft/lb energy. Laughing

The bit of wood is for chrony-testing. It stops the rounds from richochetting back off the concrete plate behind and through my head when my customers are testing their rifles. Laughing

The silencer is for sub-sonic rounds (1050fps).

I'm with tatters, I think a shot from that 200 yards even to the head would most likely bounce off the skull or get stuck in it, doubt it would penetrate. That's assuming you hit the target at all, an airgun pellet is going to suffer some serious deviation when it reaches 200 yards from wind, air resistance and gravity. Air guns aren't designed to kill people or large animals.

And why such a large silencer? A balloon popping is pretty damn loud, I have a Daystate silencer on mine a fraction of that size and it's virtually silent, the only thing you can hear is the spring inside the mechanism going off.

Trust me, at 25ft/lb energy no .22 or .25 pellet is going to "bounce off" a human skull (at 200yds a .22 wouldn't have enough energy though). At 200yds the round (a 21gr .22 or 31gr .25) will drop approx 10'/8' (ten/eight feet) when fired horizontally. At low mag that is accomodated by any decent scope (you'd be firing from around the lowest milldot, or with whatever your scope is graduated). The deviation on a 31gr pellet is minimal at that range, unless you're talking serious wind. It's still doing nearly 600fps at that range. And it'll take deer down easily at more sensible ranges (inside 50yds, unless you'd like to take the chance of making the animal suffer with a botched shot). With such a small round shot-placement is everything, penetration is not an issue.

The popping balloon was a bad choice of comparison. The only sound from that rifle is of the hammer clacking against the breech. And it's that big purely for aesthetic reasons, I have another I made that is less than half the OD and nearly as quiet, but I didn't like the look of it.

If I wanted to I could fit a .50-cal barrel to that rifle with a modded valve and shoot cows with it. Or put a hole clean through a man's chest, in one side and out the other. There's 3000psi in that tank, and if the valve, spring and hammer are set accordingly you can fire up to a 1" round at 700+fps (there's one on Youtube). With a higher psi it'll go faster. 9mm airguns are used regularly to hunt big game. And a host of other calibres. The bigger and heavier the round though the less shots you get from a tank of air. I can get around 20 shots from a .25, from a slowest of 950fps to a high of 1050fps (there's a velocity bell-curve, unless the rifle is regulated). That's what the fine-tuning is about, getting the sweetest bell-curve for a given choice of round and velocity range. Or you fit the above-mentioned regulator (I'm still waiting on mine).

I have one permission (permission = piece of private land with permission to shoot). My best live shot to date with this rifle was a rabbit at 97yds (lased with the range-finder). I should add that my rifle is non-functional until I get to my permission, which is where I keep the components required to enable it. Even with a legal rig I'm not taking any chances of being hassled and having it taken for tests by some jobsworth, then getting it back with the scope dented/lens scratched and the barrel bent (which has happened to plenty of people). I won't even test customers' rifles, I produce the parts and they then have to complete the final assembly and test themselves. I fine-tune accordingly until they are happy. All pukka and legit. It's a nice little side-line. Smile
