early stages..anyone interested ?

Hi......I'm starting what i guess will be a long and complicated plan to
bugger off for a long trip, not necessarily around the world but i'd like to see a lot of it,

Realistically i'm a little over a year away from leaving which should be long enough to get some kind of route planned and paper work done.
That said , i don't want to over plan and be strangled by it all.
A bike, a road, and some time is the essence of this trip. (the occasional boat will help).

If anyone else is interested in either possibly coming along or offering advice it'd be great to hear from you..thanks

Maybe... the thought has crossed my mind for a proper long trip rather than 2 weeks but I think my idea would be different to a lot of people's, such as I'm not interested in Middle East/African countries for starters.

Thanks...i just read your Romania trip write up,good stuff.
Over the coming weeks i'm going to be pouring over maps and google
to get a route sorted, so far i'm at Dover...which in it's self is pleasing to think of.
I don't want to get my head cut off on the telly so there are some places i'm going to avoid,but i am literally at square one.
I'll keep posting my thoughts on the route so please pitch in.

I quite like the idea of heading straight down to Barcelona and getting on a ferry to Napoli for no other reason than i like boats and i've never been to spain.
A nice relaxing motor around southern Italy to end up in Brindisi and another boat to Patras in the Penopolese..or Greece which has a stunning coast road on the northern shore.
That will bring me up to Athens then North and.....well, thats it so far.

I've been thinking about a long trip for a while, the main place I'd like to visit would be South America, keep the thoughts coming though Very Happy

funny you should say that, i'm going to Argentina next week..not bike related,but i will have a chance when there to sus out a few things.
I'm going to get hold of some good maps and see if i can learn anything of use generally.....i'm attempting to learn spanish at the moment so..yes the pan am highway sounds really appealing .

The roads in Thailand are superb for bikes, there is a big community of bikers over there...they regularly have large meets, like Bike Week in Chiang Mai. The only difference to UK ones are they sit in the bars by day and ride at night, when it's cooler.

And also in India by all accounts. I have friends who live in India during our winters, and once they'd got their tan topped up, and they look all swarthy and brown (hence not getting treated like a tourist), they load up their Enfield and head off exploring all sorts of areas in India. They tell me the roads are pretty good for bikes and exploring.

If you decide to head out to Laos and Cambodia, I would advise you to opt for something a bit more off road stylee - African Twin or something a little more hardy, the roads are not exactly roads as we know them!!! Shocked

And well, Vietnam...everyone has seen Top Gear in the 'Nam so, you already know the roads are okay out there.
