Hey

I got a scooter project which is coming to an end and I would like it taxed and tested before sold. There is no need for me to have insurance for it as it will be sold.

What can I do?

I was thinking of seeing if I can get a weeks insurance or something? It's only a scooter too so shouldn't cost much.

Thanks

Take an existing insurance policys cover sheet.

Scan into computer, use photoshop to type in new reg number/vehicle details.

Print off.

They don't check the policy number or anything Thumbs Up

You can get 1-day insurance. They fax over the document though so I'm not sure how well that'd work at a PO. I'm not sure if the 1-day insurance would give the insurance database thingy enough time to register it to be able to do it online? Thinking

I wouldn't use angelgrinder's method as it sounds somewhat illegal, and while they will no doubt never check, realise or find out is it worth it given government department's favourite passtime is hunting ppl down and trying to rape them.

Get a 1 day policy or get a full policy and cancel it within 14 days with a good reason, though that may well cost you an admin fee.

Yeah seems a bit dodgy anglegrinder but cheers anyway.

Looks like the way to go is 1 day or 30 day insurance. Who does these policies? I've looked before but havn't seen any.

When I was looking for my current bike I had no insurance of my own, so I wasn't covered to test ride it. I contacted eBike, saying I was going to buy it and needed cover from that that day, and I was emailed a 7 day cover note in pdf for the bike, with the understanding that I would owe nothing but wouldn't be covered after that unless I paid the premium.

Either that, or just get the MOT done and knock the cost of tax off the sale.

Why do you want to tax it? Isn't it only £15 or something? Hardly a big selling point. Just knock £15 off the price.

Phoenix, I haven't myself but know plenty of people that have done it and not had a problem.

Except that it does seem to be a much bigger selling point, even than £15 for a 125.
Part of it is the ease of riding away and maybe part just that it sounds more like a legit working bike.

Yes I can believe that because Post Office staff don't check the MID to make sure the cover is genuine, however I don't know if they have a system of checking randomly, upto you if you feel it worth the risk of trying as I've no idea if it is illegal or not, probably is as most things are.

If you were presenting a recent certificate, or a print-off one from short-term insurance it probably wouldn't be on the MID anyway, but yes, there could be a nagging doubt that something could come of it.

Ah right thanks for the input guys. When it comes to it I'll let you know what I do, just waiting on the logbook to come through now.

Yeah, agree with G about the tax, if it isn't there then it's a downside for the sale.

Hopefully take out a policy then cancel it. Ebike wanted £40 for one month because I couldn't use my no claims, seems a bit much though. I could get full cover for about £80 with my 5 years nearly 6 no claims.
