HI guys, I dont know much about motorbikes, brought my first 2 weeks ago, its Sachs xtc125 (2002, 4 stroke).
Now a week after passing my CBT I am woried as I have noticed its making a clicking/ ticking noise that can be hear when riding under 25mph.
The MOT runs out in next 28 days. At the moment I have £900 dept so I cannot take it to garage.
Thats why I am posting it hire, maybe someone had the same problem and knows how to solve it.

The noise comes srom front or middle of the bike. I have checked the brakes, they are fine.

I would like to provide you with a sound clip but my mobile cannot pick up that noise , but will try again tonight.
The noise is constant, sounds like something was changing somewhere, it builds up befre it 'clicks' the process takes about 0.8s- 1s, then off for for 0.6s and on againg.

I would really have to be off the bike or have the bike running on a platform to determinate where is the noise comming from.

Could I have a list of things that could couse the clicking noise (as well as list of solitions) ?

Does it happen when you walk the bike round as i had this on my 4 stroke it turned out that the front sprocket retaining pate was worn and was allowing the front sprocket to tap back and forth? Although mine seemed louder when wheeling backwards for some reason?

I have new sprockets and chain. Will change it soon.
(I dont have any chain lube at home, but the chain is lubed from new, so do I have to lube it after changing?)

Could you upload some pic of these retaining plates cos I dont know what it is

When looking at the front sprocket it will have some bolts in it, the bolts hold the retaining plate on once the the bolts are removed you turn the plate so it aligns with the cut outs in the shaft and it will slide off. The plate itself will have cutout teeth on it on mine the teeth were alot thinner than the main part of the plate so i could see it was worn. The other way to tell would be to remove the front sprocket cover and see how much play there is sideways on the sprocket if there is alot then its worn

Shocked

Yes.... You need to clean and relube the chain ever few hundred miles. I do mine every 2 weeks (about every 150 miles).

As the chain stretches or develops tight spots, you'll have to adjust the tension. No doubt this is what is causing your noise. You can't hear it over about 30mph, because of road noise.
