My 33bhp shackles came off a few days ago (now I can take the restrictor plates out of the storm, officer Wink) but I'm wondering if I have to send off for a new licence, as the <25kW restriction code doesn't seem to list any expiry date.

Anyone know?

That is a very good point and a few people have mentioned it before. I was just wondering myself. I would suppose the best people to ask are the DVLA.

Mind you if we have to and we have to pay then it will be a rather rubbish government we have. Basically raping us every chance they get.

Summy asked about this quite a while ago, surely he would've found out by now? Give him a call/PM (especially since you seem to scared of the "authorities" Wink).

I think you would need a new licence but wait until you have a producer. Any cop with any brains can see that from the issue date your restriction has lifted. Unless they want to be an arse.

The DVLA do not help themselves with there crazy prices for licence changes.

Regards,
Kevo.

my issue date on the pink license reads;

CatA - 10.09.01 - 10.09.51 <25kW

but i passed my test in 2003 Confused the dates dont actually indicate the restriction period at all.

Hi

Think it has always been 2 years for a restricted licence to turn into a full licence. However if you turn 21 during that time you can go and do a direct access test

All the best

Keith

It's always been 2 years from taking the restricted test, if you reach 21 before the 2years is up you can take Accelerated Access to derestrict you.

Got a reply today for all you concerned people:

Quote:

Thank you for your e-mail.

Once the two years have passed you can automatically ride larger
motorcycles. The restriction does not need to be removed.

However if you wish to have it removed you will need to return your current
licence with application form D1 from the post office and the fee of £18.00.

I hope this answers your enquiry.

Regards,

Mrs K Bevan,

Er pay £18 just to get rid of a number!

Someone told me that when they have to change their license they just change the address from their house to their Granny's address at the same time so the DVLA do it for free. Not sure if I believe them though.

Do you have to change it when you move(obviously silly question)

What I mean is how much does it cost?

The official answer:

"According to the DVLA there is no need to apply for a a new licence on expiry of the restriction date limiting the type of motorcycle that can be ridden. A police officer could tell the restriction had expired by checking the dates on the licence.

If you want to have the restriction note removed, a new licence costs £18"

When you pass either the car or bike practical tests you have 2 years to send off for your full licence. I passed my driving test in October of last year (so nearly a year ago) yet I didn't send off for a new licence until recently when I moved house. I sent off my provisional with my pass certificate and my change off address details and no fee. Hey presto, new gay pink licence arrives on my doorstep a week later Very Happy

Nope. When you do your CBT your photocard and counterpart stay the same. Your CBT certifacte becomes part of your license though so don't be lossing it!
