CBTs do only last two years, but if you obtained your car licence before 1 February 2001 you do not need to complete a CBT to ride a moped.

I'm not sure about that - i passed my test in 2002, and i've got "P" entitlement on my licence to ride a 50cc

cbt's last two years

I think you need to have taken your test by a certain year to be able to ride a 50cc using a car licence? Cant really remember

Ste is correct. You don't need to display L plates and you can carry a passenger. No motorways though as mopeds aren't allowed on them anyway. Also, if you passed your car test AFTER February 2001, you need to do CBT in order to validate your moped entitlement, and the DL196 certificate is valid for the duration of your license so keep it safe. Same rules as above then apply to you. Thumbs Up

Thats good then..

no 'L' plate either.

why does the CBT only last to years? is this to iron out 'bad habits'?

CBT only lasts two years because that's more than enough time for someone to get experience and training to get their full license. Having a CBT isn't meant to be a long term way of being on the roads.

Still, if you've completed basic training then you've completed it it doesn't mean you forget it all after 2 years. It's not like you have to retake your driving test every 2 years. I think having a 2 year limit on theory test also is just another moneygrabbing technique. License holders don't have to prove that they know it all again every 2 years so why should it matter if you don't get it done all at once?

But then, that's another topic altogether Smile

The CBT is designed to encourage you to take your test, not as some kind of license substitute...

because you passed your test before 2001 you can drive a moped without a cbt BUT it has to be a maximum of 50cc and limited to 30mph, its like being 16 all over again Laughing ,have fun.
