Hi
More revs = more damage when cold (ie, oil possibly hasn't got all the way round, oil is thicker and all the clearances are screwy until things have got up to their operating temperature), but I wouldn't worry about 3~4k. Rule of thumb to me is treat it like it is running in and keep under half max rpm.
Choke revving it to 5K immediatly (when the oil has had no chance to get round the engine) when the engine starts is probably far worse for it.
All the best

If if I choke rev to 3-4k on my 400 twin I get rewarded with plumes of blue smoke out of the head and pipe
If I'm very careful with the choke and keep it just ticking over then theres no smoke at all.....
I think I know what is best for the engine.....
Saying that thought the bike is high milage and pretty shagged.... |
