Was thinking the other day that there are alot of bikers out there and was wondering what if there was a topgear for bikers would you watch it.

the show would run along the same sort of format as topgear (in my mind), or are there any 'consumer' bike shows out there that already do a similar sort of thing already.

I love Top Gear as it is so would definately like to see a bike version.

The only thing is, in my opinion Top Gear is a little bit of a naff program if you take out Clarkson, Hammond and May who I think make the show so you would need some pretty big charectors to make a bike version watchable as I doubt you would get clarkson talking bikes!

Have a search through the hundred and sixty three threads on the other subject.
Seeing that top gear isn't 'about' cars, I don't see how it'd work if it was about bikes specifically. They've done shows with two wheels in (ie the Thailand one); the vehicle isn't the important factor in it's success, but the scripts writers and the presenters ability to portray those scripts.

Also, it'd get tiring here too, being told that a GSXR600 was the fastest thing ever, when you know they tested an R1 last year - and watching them do stunts while pretending they're actually racing.

If this was ever said in a show I would have to turn over immediately and write into complain.

Everyone knows the fasted thing ever is the 98 R1.

The big questions are this....

1) would 'the hamster' end up dead? he can't drive a car without crashing.

2) who would be 'the stig'?

3) would james 'captain slow' may make bikers image into 'weirdy beardies'?

4) what would top the lap powerboard?

5) what would be the sub zero bike on the cool wall?

6) what would the bike be for star on the reasonably priced bike?

Wouldn't work.

My Mum, for example, enjoys TopGear - it's an entertainment show as much as a car show and I think that would be very difficult to replicate with different presenters (how every much of a script the 3 characters stick to anyway).

He would end up being bionic and starting a new programme

You would need a new chatacter, "BAAL" one of the great Gods

Quote:
3) would james 'captain slow' may make bikers image into 'weirdy beardies'?

He could do the choppers and H'D' crap.

You could Dyno each bike then do a lap with Baal. But have a bit of off road on the lap so it would be full of dull pocket rockets.

5) what would be the sub zero bike on the cool wall?

Dakar/ rally raid bikes, '98 R1, C90.

Uncool would be most sports 600/1000 bikes, They are Clitoris bikes, every cunt has one. ( cunt being joe average, not Mr Arsewipe ) ( although most arsewipes on bikes do ride sports )

There used to be a bike spot on Top Gear that was always presented by Steve Berry. I remember that section of the show was cancelled temporarally when Berry had an off, but the spot never returned.

There's shit loads of bikes that aren't the major players.

I was thinking the other day that I would write in to TopGear to suggest a test:

The top car on their laptime board, set head to head against a standard production bike, bought from a local bike dealer. The test could include a 1/4 mile drag race, a lap of the top gear track and a long haul across a country (France?). Points for speed, comfort and style?

Bet they wouldn't go for it as the bike would show up the car by being cheaper, faster, more fun and - most important of all - sub zero cool.

Cool

A 600RR was beaten by 4 seconds by the Atom on the track. I'm sure that a hyper car would munch its way past said bike on a 1/4 mile drag and as for cross country jaunts? I'd rather have the Zonda thanks.

Okay put the Atom against a litre sports bike on the strip, track and across country. I bet the bike would win all three.

With teh Zonda the cross country part would have to include getting across a major city with speed humps, traffic etc. What about a Busa against the Zonda, or maybe 20x Busa's v one Zonda (if money were divvied out equally to either side).

I think Top Gear ignore bikes too much - it's like they are scared of them.

The quarter mile would be close.
Looked up for someone at work to explain the speed of my commuter-bike and why I'm not that impressed by the speed of my fastish car... with me on doing just three runs on a drag strip, the time I got was a little slower than a veyron and a little faster than an Enzo.

Top gear has done a bike vs car test before; as to be expected though, it was not a 'test', but scripted entertainment, making the results rather irrelevant.
The fifth gear tests are better, but still not amazing as the one the GSXR lost to the Radical, the rider was show boating a fair bit.

i remember they done a car bike test with some random biker guy instead of a well known motogp racer which is pointless with a random since they wont be as good as a pro like rossi or casey

If you mean the top gear one - why need a moto gp rider, unless it was an F1 driver at the wheel?
Irrelevant anyway, as the pace wasn't much faster than a just-passed-DAS rider would be riding, so not really worth shelling out for a moto-gp rider, then telling them to ride slowly.

yeah but if your racing car against bike, if the rider can launch a motorbike at its peak rpm without fishtailing and wheeling then that could make all the difference to a race and if a pro biker can corner better than your average joe that could shave seconds off against a car?

1) Never mind the show, if he says his stock 'Blade can do 200mph one more time I'll fucking kill him.

2) Well considering at the moment it's mostly touring car drivers, I'd have to say someone from Superstock 1000 maybe?

3) James May would give the program "Mass Appeal for all the BMWankers, but is also into his cool old British bikes Thumbs Up

4) Duke 1198, RC8, '09 R1? I dunno..

5)KTM RC8, or the Honda NR750

6) CB500, reliable, does the job, cheap to fix.

I'm guessing you don't know much about (big?) bikes. Very unlikely to 'fish tail' a stock big bike on normal tarmac. Keeping wheelies under control is more important. Oh and peak RPM isn't required and would be a rather silly thing to use on any reasonably-power bike. Even peak torque is likely to be too much.
However, for the purposes of such a test, if you sent an average-joe to a drag strip for a day and gave them some pointers, they would be so close to the moto-gp rider that the differences would be irrelevant - infact, they may well be better as I believe moto-gp bikes have launch control these days?

As for round the corners, well yes, though I believe they did use a fairly experienced racer - the difference between a good BSB racer and a moto-gp rider in comparison to you or I is relatively little. The higher up you go, big jumps in skill level give very small increases of lap times.
However, still, you seem to have ignored my second sentence... it is IRRELEVANT because they told the rider to finish behind the carand not ride very fast.
Why get a moto-gp rider in, then tell them to ride at a 'my first trackday' speed? They won't be going faster, because they've been told to go slowly Rolling Eyes.
