Hi,
I'm regular "lurker" here, although I don't post much.
I have a DRZ400E it's the full enduro version, which I use mostly off road, there's no MOT for bikes in Cyprus, so it's "run wot you brung" on the roads here.

Anyway I'm hankering after a road bike, so if the collective brain power of BCF could let me know what's available, I'd be grateful.

Here are my requirements:-
Sportsbike
Single cylinder 4 stroke, over 250cc upto 600cc, (Over 600 attracts a hefty import duty).
Not a supermoto, (I could just change the wheels on the DRZ).
New, or second hand

So what's available?
Anyone run one? What's it like? Reliability maintenance etc.

Why does it have to be a single?

There are plenty of multi sports bikes, but no single sports bike that I can think of.

(Aside from the race only Ducati Supermono)

Unless you want to make your own.

Think moto X engine into a 125/250 GP style chassis.

How about this.

Just needs some lights and a horn. Cool

Suzuki 350 Goose is a cafe racer, nearest I can think of to a sportsbike apart from an SZR.

Why do you want a single specifically?

"Why does it have to be a single?"

Well I like 'em, used to have one of the original DR600's before some low life relieved me of it.

Love the noise, love the grunt, not as manic as a multi!

And I suppose the " something a bit different" factor is appealing.

Lights and a horn, plod here wouldn't bat an eyelid at that, plenty of people running full racing slicks on the road here! Very Happy

Why don't you go for a twin? The noise and the grunt and the reduced manicness is more similar to a single than a 4 cyl.

I just can't think of ANY suitable single but there are loads of V or parallel twins that would fit the bill. Unless I've missed anything there's no obvious single cyl. sportsbike so if one existed it would be rare and probably impossible to find in Cyprus. Even the Suzuki Goose is hard to find though it may be the bike you're looking for actually Thinking

I think your choices are a twin, a Goose or an SZR660.

The mx engine into road frame was nearly what i was going to do a few years back, I had the DR600, less than 5k on the clock, and I had a KR1S ready to slot the engine into.
Unfortunately some theiving scumbag, had the DR away before I got around to it! Crying or Very sad

If you like the DRZ engine, the CCM cafe racer style bikes may be worth a look.

Very expensive for what it is and quite rare, so personally I'd just get a multi-cylinder bike of some kind Smile.

Try looking at SRX 400/600, they are yamaha singles and very good on petrol.

Its basically an XT400/600 engine in a cafe racer frame.

A word of caution, they are VERY small. They are short and also very thin. Depends how big you are, my mate a little smaller than me (im 6foot6) loves his and as its so small and nimble he rides the damn thing rediculosly fast. No problem in de chickening a set of tyres.....
