I've had an e-mail from my mum saying she has received a letter for me asking for info on my old bike that I sold almost 2 years ago.
Asking for when i got it when i sold it, millage, and history of insurance write off or clocks being changed.
Anyone had one of these before or any idea what its about?

Thanks

J

hi,
who's the letter from?
just some prospective buyer, wanting to know more about the history of the bike?
i've been known to contact prevous owners when restoring old bikes.
or is it from an insurance company?
cheers,
GAZ

Not had one of these letters, but assume I may have caused a few to be sent out when applying for V5's in my name (last few bikes have had no paperwork at the time of purchase- one of them no reg number only a frame and engine number and tatty unreadable tax disk to go from)

My guess is the guy that bought the bike from you didn't bother to register it in his name has either lost the V5 and now wants it in his name or has sold it on without the V5 and the new owner wants a piece of paper to make it legit

Even if you filled out the V5 at the time of sale and sent it off to the black hole of Swansea does not guarantee the new owner will get the paperwork- been there , and again probably caused some correspondence to the previous registered keeper to verify I should be the new named keeper, maybe the guy you sold it on to has only just got it back on the road if it was a non runner or accident damaged??

Probably nothing to worry about

Regards
Rob

Edited to add - I assumed the letter was from DVLA, which may or may not be the case?!?

Funnily enough I got one a few days ago asking for some docs for an old bike I owned from the new owner.

I don't have them anymore so never got back to the chap who bought it, felt kind of bad at the time but hey ho... Confused

Hi

Depends who it is from. Could be an insurance company fishing for details to try and reduce a claim. Could be trading standard is trying to pin down someone fiddling the mileage.

All the best

Keith

I've asked my mum to send the letter on to me so I can see what its about. Wouldn't mind buying the bike back if its up for sale Smile
