In the nice weather i was out on mine with just jeans and a t-shirt and helmet.

Very risky but strangely good!

I have done so before, jeans, tshirt and helmet, but have never overtaken someone, gone over 30MPH and have always enjoyed it as a rare moment on a hot day in town.

In fact I'm sure I wrote this somewhere here on the forum before, I was riding in town wearing a tshirt and so driving more safely at only 20MPH and was able to avoid hitting a car reversing in to a main road because of this. It was much better than hitting the car with all of my protective gear on.

Now, I know that you can ride sensibly all of the time with all of the gear on but the truth is that it doesn't happen. The more protection we wear the more we feel justified to make bigger risks.

I'll only do dual carriage ways if I'm wearing all my gear, but having an accident there and there's a huge chance of death. No risk of death with slow moving town traffic and no gear IMHO.

Oh look. ANOTHER safety Nazi thread.

And it's not even summer.

How original.

I always cringe when I see people in t-shirts and trackies on bikes/scooters. I've only once ridden without protective gear, I had jeans, t-shirt and a fleece jacket. I was bloody freezing despite the nice weather and my riding was terrible as I became horribly nervous and lost my confidence because I felt so unprotected. Never again. Besides leathers look far cooler.

I can remember once seeing a young lad out on a motorbike without a helmet, I couldn't figure out why it looked so wrong besides the shorts and t-shirt combo, then I realised his head was far too small in comparison to other bikers. Razz Idiot, I hope he got pulled.

Because if I can't make it five minutes, or only 200 metres even, down the road without crashing then I should probably hand in my license now? Confused

Actually was talking about ngsavfc who said that Aiks said the above when it was clearly me Confused wow this has gotten waay off of topic.

I can also deduce that ngsavfc doesn't like his tackle flying all of the place Confused that's wrong on several levels that will disturb me before I sleep now.

Sorry for disturbing you Alexio & for also attributing your naked riding to someone else ... Mr. Green ...I quite enjoy my tackle flying all over the place but wouldn`t do it on a motorcycle...also, my seat is quite abrasive & would leave my sack looking like unpeeled lychees.....plus I want to leave all my skiddies on the road Thumbs Up

I think I`ve disturbed myself now! Shocked

It does make me wonder when a guy gets on a bike, a nice bike, kept in good order, nice boots, sometimes leather pants, sometimes jeans, a nice jacket, a good lid, but no gloves.

..how else can you showoff your Rolex.....
had a discussion t'other day about safety laws, chap wouldn't have it, that i want to make my own decisions regarding my safety. Obviously we talked seat-belts first and i agree its wrong not to wear them if yer in the back, but if i'm travelling alone i want choice. His reply was he understands my libertarian approach but feels we need to be Nanny'd. Yeah.. so i can be made a criminal by not wearing a belt or a helmet. Stupid bloody world at times.
In short...Cringe ..yes these posts make me cringe.
Choice Thumbs Up

It is a slippery slope to controlling things. Just about everything has a level of risk associated with it, whether that is eating a peanut or sky diving. I am sure there are things that chap does which others would regard as being too dangerous.

All the best

I've always worn helmet, armoured textile jacket and gloves as minimum, along with jeans usually though I do have some armoured textile trousers but it's a pain kitting up in that if you're just going into town or something, whacking a jacket and gloves on isn't an issue for me, even in hot weather the jacket is not that warm with the lining taken out.

Anyway I had an off the other week, my upper body which was protected came out almost completely unscathed bar a minor bruise on my chest and arm, my legs however took a right beating with cuts and bruises, I was wearing jeans, wished I was wearing the protective trousers!

End of the day it's up to anyone if they want to ride in a t-shirt, shorts or whatever, 99.9% of the time you wont come off, it's that 0.1% of the time you are grateful for the protection.

First of all me and Alexio are NOT The same person what makes you think that? Shocked

ngsavfc - You are getting our responses mixed up...

And finally.

I would never ride without at least jeans, biking jacket, helmet and gloves. When I think about coming off even at slow speed, because someone didn't see me before merging from junction, I can just imagine how bad would my scratches be...

I normally wear full protective gear, if I just want to wear jeans I have some kevlar ones which are great, look like ordinary jeans, are light and save you from cuts scrapes and dreaded road rash in case of an off. Wont stop you breaking bones but are better than standard jeans.

That's super.

How a stranger chooses to protect themselves however, is their business.

I just look at it logically, Head and hands, head because its my head I want to protect, hands because it is hard to skin graft hands and I like holding a cup of tea. Those are the basics I cover, the rest is on how I feel as most of the rest can be grafted back on.
Even if I didn't have to wear a lid I would, 99.5% of the time.
