Hi all I recently purchased a little 50cc dirt bike for my nephew He has bugged his dad for months to get him a pit bike/mini moto (strimmer engined pap), It is relativly small sort of half way between a pw50 and 80 if you know what i mean but very very stable and smooth with proper brakes, well drum brakes at least are better than the push bike brakes his mates have on thier mini motos

Now I went for this particular bike because it is based around a c.p.i. 50cc a.c. scooter engine minus the cooling fan and shroud to make it narrower, It has a battery and charging system to power the electric start choke and horn (no lights but could fit i suppose),

The problem is after removing the resticting spacer from the front pulley and opening up the intake manifold(was probably 9/10mm dia and carb is 17.5mm) and the exhaust looked to be restrictor free but the thing will only do 20mph tbh I never rode the bike before derestricting it,

The only thing I can imagine would be limiting the top speed now is the cdi as it didn't seem to rev very high,

The thing is I don't know much about the model so have not been abled to determine if the cdi is restricted or not, all I know is that it had stickers on the tank saying kxd 50 and the belt cover has c.p.i. cast into it, The electrics seem a little odd to operate although every thing does work,

The kill switch has three positions 1, is off 2, is run 3, is start (causes engine to rev then stop then rev then stop so that the bike won't pull away on its own), The electric start and horn etc have a seperate switch to turn them on,

Now the cdi has me a little confused as I expected being a minarelli/jog clone engine That it would share the same ignition system but it doesn't, The jog lists a five wire cdi for early bikes and an eight wire cdi for later bikes, now the cdi on this bike has nine wires,

Two of the wires go to the cdi from the pulser coil with bullet connectors,
Two come from the cdi to the ht coil with a two pin plug,
Three seem to come from the kill switch to the cdi with a three pin plug,
And two more that I have not yet identified that go into the cdi via a two pin plug these are a black and a red wire.

with the rest of the wires accounted for do you guys reckon it would be safe enough to un plug the other two wires and see what happens or just to leave well enough alone,

Or has anyone with a yamaha/mbk or cpi/other chinese bike had any experience with a nine wire cdi,

I realy expected this little bike to be a little quicker so that we could gradualy let the throttle restrictor off once he had gotten used to riding bikes, The nephew is no stranger to quads etc but this will be he first bike he's nine but he is fairly small for his age.
