Got a viewing tomorrow for a GSX600F F reg, 1989 year.

Any tips or known issues that I should know about?

Buyer wants £695, but his best mate reckons he'll give it for £600. Comes with a spare engine, only problem with the spare is it's had a bearing get loose and fire itself out the side of the engine, but the pistons and such are still good apparently.
The guy has had it for the last 9 years and has now got to old for the "sporty position".

What do you guys think?

Thanks.

Yazta.

for that money i'd want a late style 98+ 600f.

they aren't popular bikes over here so dont fetch much.

they are also some sort of hybrid of a bandit and old gsxr engines so typical suzuki things to check,

I can't help you with the bike but as far as that spare engine goes it's just scrap metal, don't give anything for it. You will never use the pistons out of it etc. etc. Maybe the carbs at a push, but I doubt it.

Earlier this year I sold my 1995 GSX750F for less than that. It's a pretty solid bike however:
Exhaust downpipes are made of cheese and not particularly cheap to replace.
Shock is a bit rubbish (I replaced mine with a second hand bandit 1200 shock).
Carbs on mine went out of balance quite regularly, causing rough running.

For a suzuki, it held up to the elements pretty well due to all that plastic (apart from the downpipes). Comfy and a good pillion bike too (as long as you don't want to change the preload much - requires fairing removal).
Oh, and dirt cheap to insure.

I sold a 97 bike in fair (if slightly tatty in places) condition for £550. Was my first big bike, good to learn on, was pretty reliable, quickish. People say they are ugly but i wouldnt go that far - not pretty maybe!.

Wouldnt pay that for an '89 though unless it was immaculate, even then only if i was desperate for transport.

What do you think would be fair money for it though?

I'd agree. Hard luggage, or even the racks, is tough to get hold of for these now. If it's got that I'd be willing to pay a bit more, but the asking price is still far too high.
