Looking for a decent 4 stroke 125cc bike, I know of Honda CBR and Hyosung, are there any other decent 125 4 stroke bikes around?

I am liking the look of the Hyosung, but prices are over 1k for all bikes, I'm currently getting my Aprilia done up to sell (Hopefully over 1k too) so I can get a 4 stroke, as I've been told by everyone to get 1.

Thanks in advance.

Lets see, having to rebuild the engine every 10k just to go faster, or having a bike that may not be as fast, but lasts for a lot longer.

Easy decision, but you know, thanks for helping.

iooi maybe blunt but is correct.
Anyways what kind of riding do you like? Give us more to go on or a long list of 125s will follow.

Honestly, I just want something new ish and sporty looking, the speed and acceleration doesn't bother me at all, I really only need it for short trips not going over 60 (Although I do)

I made this post because I do want a 4 stroke, I can't afford to keep repairing my Aprilia, I've already spent over £1000 just getting new engines and getting it repaired.

What's your budget, around 1k? If so, then I guess you could find a second hand CBR125. Other more expensive sporty 125 4t's include the Yamaha YZF-R125 and maybe the Honda Varadero 125 (well it's semi-naked but yeah).

If you plan on doing your test soon and getting a bigger bike, the general consensus would be that you're better off saving your money and going for something like a CG or YBR that will be reliable and easy to ride to practice on. I've totted up 18'000 miles on my YBR and it still goes like a trooper, but I just want a cheap commuter and have no plans to go for a bigger bike any time soon. Thumbs Up

Ah for the old days of 2T like the X7 and Lc 350 which would run for miles and never need rebuilding.

Take your pick of any of the 125's then.

If its cheap you want then there is only the Cg Laughing

1K is only going to get 2nd hand, as its a sellers market on the 125's

Take a trip to a dealers and sit on a few.
I guess from your liking of the Hyosung, that you are quite large.

Hi

You are pretty limited on choice for sporty 4 strokes. CBR125, YZF125 and the Hyosung. There are a load of Chinese bikes but probably best not to touch them. There is also the late Sachs XTC and (think) a Reiju.

However probably the only one in your £1k budget would be a CBR125, and they are pretty small (and plenty would argue with the idea that they are sporty).

Personally depending on how long you are keeping it and the mileage you are doing I would stick with the Aprilia or buy another 2 stroke but one that isn't in such a high state of tune and is more mechanically reliable (eg, NSR).

All the best

Keith

I had an NSR from right after I passed my CBT, the engine went in it, but we've found it near impossible to find anything for the bike, it's on a 94 plate, I was under the impression they stopped making them in 93, and started again in 95, so I dunno how that works, but we never managed to find any spare parts for it.

I was looking at the CBR, but I also read a review about it, mentioning something about the tires being very thing or something along those lines.

The budget will be around £1000-£1100, I've seen a lot of Hyosung's around for 1.2k ish, but with still having the Aprilia, I don't have the money around at the moment, which is why I'm just keeping my options open.

The going rate for the sachs xtc is around £1000. Obviously depending upon condition and mileage, it may be a little more or a little less.

Mate i have a Honda nsr. Riding it on a CBT...it's all fully restricted up but will still top out at 85mph. I dont think there is such a thing as a sporty 4 stroke! lol. If you're going to get anything under a 250...i always think it should be 2 stroke. I do about 80 miles a day on my Nsr...and the only thing i have done to her engine wise is put a new spark plug in because the other one wasn't producing a hot enough spark. And i think the engine has done around 23000 So 2 strokes are reliable enough!...and alot more fun when you do decide to blow the cobwebs out Wink

Theres nothing wrong with 2 stroke reliability when they're restricted. Theres also little difference between a 4 stroke and a restricted 2 stroke. Problems seem to occur when people derestrict them.

early varadero 125 - £1300 ish
comfy, reliable, happy to tootle along at 65 - 70, nice looking, big enough to be noticed above car rooflines, easy to see way up ahead, regular 70ish mpg, easy to sling around. I'm a happy commuter and swapped my cbf125 for the dero - best decision I've ever made. Love it, love it, love it!!! I'm toying with the big boys test but I can't find a bike that ticks all the same boxes for me as the dero.

Just be prepared to be constantly asked "what size is your bike mate?"

(and I even get nods from riders on real motorbikes!!)

So happy with that you posted it twice were we? Laughing Wink

You get nods of most people with Real bikes on most 125's buddy. Unless you get the stuck up ones who ride for the sake of riding and not for the love of riding and who think they're better than you as they have a proper bike....but most of them forget they were once in the position we are Smile Just keep riding. Very Happy Thumbs Up

Honda Varadero 1000 Thumbs Up[/quote]

well.......

one of the boxes that I need ticking is

"must cost peanuts to own & run"

I commute about sixty miles a day so I need to be able to run a bike and keep a car on the drive (sadly my 125 dero won't pull my Bailey claggyvan to the Lakes). If there was a 300ish Dero I'd do the test as quickly as I could. I've been a Nobby Ninepoints for a while so I don't yearn for 100mph+. The only thing missing from the 125 dero is the ability to maintain motorway speeds against inclines and strong head on winds.

sorry for the double posting - don't know how that happened

Ha ha, they do? I get nods from bikers all the time, often as they over take me as I've never really been able to push past 70MPH. Still, it's like they're acknowledging my pain of being on a 125 four stroke or being nostalgic. Saying that, I'd never give up my 125, even if I get a bigger bike.

Bumping.

I have been mainly looking at getting a Honda CBR 125, can anyone tell me what the RW stands for?

Also 7 weeks and my bike is still with the mechanic, last week he told me he was putting the carb back together, after taking it apart for no reason at all, today I phoned, they were still putting the carb back together, over a week later, so I'm currently trying to find other means to find money to buy a bike.

They all seem around the same price, I'm kinda moving away from Sachs from reading they are having money troubles and the bikes/parts are very rare.

Hyosung seem a good bike, but again they are roughly the same price as a CBR, if not slightly higher, but you can guarantee getting parts for a Honda.

The third bike I have been looking at is Rieju, I have heard nothing at all about them, apart from they are a Spanish? company and only make 50CC and 125CC bikes, they look nice, but does anyone know about them?

Thanking you kindly for any replies!
