Hi ive got a CB 125 superdream.

when i got it it had a oil leak. the oil was coming out of the breather pipe on top of the gearbox.

i brought new barrels (came with pistons, piston rings and top end gasgets) i fitted them and the bike is fine.

my question is, how should i ride in the new barrels.
i started only ridding at 5k rpm for the 1st 100 miles and then 6k rpm for the next 100 miles. now i keep under 7k rpm.
i was told i need to cover 500 miles, going up an extra 1k rpm each time i complete 100 miles.

is this right??

thnx for any help

i'd thrash it properly for a bit per 100 miles on top of that.

Its best not to thrash a fresh engine, but imo the so many revs for so many miles isn't realy needed just dont load the engine (full throttle etc) for a few hundred miles and whilst your cruising alternate between fifth and forth, so you don't get hot spots on the new bores,
Tbh if you haven't changed any of the crank bearings etc, the running in will be just to settle your new rings in, as it will take several thousand miles for the pistons to properly bed in anyway on a four stroke.

an oil change after the first few hundred miles wouldn't be a bad idea and cleaning the filter gauze thing just for piece of mind.

Even if he had done the crank bearings, they don't require running in. If bearings are bedding in there's something wrong.

Are these engines plain bearings or roller bearings? fair enough roller bearing won't realy need runing in but plain bearings will to stop any tight spots picking up and trashing the bearing.
