I passed my bike test the other day so no more 'L' plates and I noticed this on my insurance policy when I looked at it properly:

Insurance Policy wrote:
Under the terms of Section II of the policy - Liability to Third Parties, the Policyholder may subject to the owners express concest also drive a motorcycle not belonging to the Policyholder and not hired to the Policyholder under a hire purchase or lease agreement.

As far as I can see, Section II(2) is my name in full which confuses me slightly.

Does this clause mean I am allowed to ride other motorcycles as long as they are 33bhp restricted of course due to A2 licence?

Cheers.

I think there's also a limit as to how big the motorcycle can be.
That is, I am covered 3rd party on an other person's motorbike, so long as it's insured, have permission, 33bhp and no more than 600cc (IIRC).

If there is a limit on cc, the policy should tell you.

From then on, I and the bicycle feelings deeper.

I can not find anything on my insurance policy which restricts me to a certain CC, section two just dictates how much they will insure me for etc.

If your licence is an A2 licence then your restricted to anything up to 33bhp.

So if you crash into someone and the bike you're riding is not restricted, then you're riding outside the terms of your licence and technically without insurance.

Other than that if you want to test ride someone's bike and it's under 33bhp, take it for a blast. You write it off you're going to be paying for it tho, as the "riding other bikes" cover is TPO.

This is what I was thinking but just wasn't sure if there was a cc restriction, asking you guys and looking through my policy (Aviva) I can't see one.

Cheers guys.

On my first year with the bandit I had the entitlement to ride other bikes but there was a cc restriction of 500. This year I'm with a different company and there is no cc restriction at all. The best thing to do is phone your insurance company and ask tbh, oh and the power restriction of 33bhp will apply what ever Wink
