Hi all,

I recently posted about a cat c insurance write off that I was thinking of buying. It had all been repaired (panel damage, front light and mudguard, basically) and the bike shop guys seemed really sound so I bought it Smile I collect it this weekend. Yay!

Now my insurance company (ebike) wants a copy of a MOT Certificate from after the incident happened, an engineers report and a vehicle identity check (VIC) inspection.

It is too new to have an MOT, but the main thing is I don't have an engineers report and don't want to pay to get one done (don't even know know how I would get it to an engineer for a report, tbh).

Do most insurance companies ask for this? I'm thinking the best thing is to pop the number plate in a comparison site and any that come up with a quote will be fine as the number plate will alert them of HPI status anyway.

Can anyone help?

Mine was a CAT-C recorded bike (2005 was the year of the accident) but was never asked for insurance for it. Whose this insurance company anyway?

im pretty sure you dont need all those check's for bike's, although they do apply to cars. Insurance really shouldn't be a problem as i insured the pan euro(cat c write off last month with ebike and they never said a word.

thinking about it, even if it's a new bike and not due an m.o.t with it being a write off it should have had one done anyway to asses roadworthyness after it was repaired........... only a guess though.

Thanks everyone for your help - always appreciated Smile

ebike are clearly being twats, and since their quote also set an excess of £600 I won't be insuring with them any more anyway.
