So yeah, I've decided to move on from the big angry Honda and go back to something a bit softer, It's been a great summer toy over the last 8 months but my riding ability (or lack of ) just doesn't do it any justice, secondly whilst I've spent a lot on it (A smidge over 2 grand for the curious) it's still not quite where I want it to be and I just can't justify spending more on it to finish the job.
As far as the basics go, its a V plate, originally red but repainted by BBW in that years Castrol Honda WSB livery with 26008 miles currently on the clock. It's got a big selection of fairly tasteful mods which I'll list below. It's condition is decent for the age but not mint, again, more details below. It's got 4 months mot and tax. Tyres are BT-016s both ends and are about halfway through their life, brake pads are probably the oldest consumable on the bike and were changed in the middle of March, pretty much everything else was done 2 weeks ago including both air filters and all the OE Honda mounts (Changed back from a pipercross filter).
I'm looking for £3000 cash but I'll also consider trades/swaps.

As far as it's mods go...
It's got a Power Commander III USB (For real now ), it's not got a custom map from a dyno but it's using a very good setup that was recommended by Lou from the RC51 boards.
Ohlin's rear shock
Ohlin's steering damper with a polished Harris mount(see below).
Harris Performance high level race pipes and hangers.
Harris polished rearsets
Topline undertray
King carbon hugger
Scott oiler + dual injector
Oxford branded Meta M53 keyed immobiliser
I'll start with the bad bits...
Those most immediate issue is that the right side harris exhaust hanger has a crack in it, it's still solid as is but it could do with replacing or wielding for peace of mind especially if your going to go thrashing the bike. If you go for the replacing method, don't bother mailing Harris as they never reply Phone em up instead, going by the recipts, part code for the pair is EXB-H01000-1.
The hose for the ohlins rear shock's remote adjuster is split from getting cooked when the join between the rear header and it's linkpipe gave up the ghost last month, I suspect it could be bodged with a new hose, some fork oil and some very careful bleeding but ideally you'll want to get the shock serviced (and preferably resprung accordingly for your weight).
Condition wise it's evidently never had a crash but but I do believe it's had a standing drop or fallen against a wall/post on it's left side at some point (Most likely before it was repainted), when I purchased it the radiator fan was ceased solid but is now repaired and working nicely, it is a bit more audible compared to a minty fresh fan, but you can't hear it over the engine.
The plastics have 2 cracks, one is to the right of the seat which has been messily repaired, the other is a small split at the front of the nose cowling where it meets the screen.
The paint has a few stonechips and is cracking a little behind the wing mirrors.
The bike has an Ohlin's steering damper but it's currently not fitted, having it on causes the bike to weave and a closer inspection of the damper shows that it has a slight bit of extra resistance in the middle of it's travel and so could do with being refurbished before it gets put back on.
As a few of you have seen first hand, the positioning for the immobiliser pad is borderline idiotic, with the winter coming up I'd strongly recommend relocating that pad or just getting rid of the immobiliser.
And now for the good bits (It has some, honest)....
The bike was thoroughly serviced 2 weeks ago including new fluids, new DID chain and sprockets (down 2 teeth on the rear sprocket), new air/oil filters and about 3 hours labour getting the wiring tidied up and ready for the winter (although annoyingly they missed the dash feed for the trip, it resets when the ignition is off currently, most likely a bad join in the plug o' doom to the left of the dash). Mechanically the bike is sweet as a nut, no rattles, knocks or dropped gears.
It also has it's service history and proper paperwork as well as a huge amount of receipts for the vast majority of mods and parts that have gone on it. The money spent on it clearly shows in it's road going manners, it's still no commuter but it's actually rideable in a 30 limit without making you hate life
As negative as I sound above, the bikes appearance is nothing short of stunning, the paint is a credit to BBW and it's the best example of the livery I've ever seen outside of a WSB paddock, the colours line up perfectly whilst the fonts and sponsor decals look spot on unlike some examples of the scheme (*Cough* dream machine ), as is it's a huge attention magnet and with some cosmetic touching up it'd be worthy of a show bike. It's also worth noting that it makes a nice noise
Anyhow, now for some porn

I'll add that I've put stomp grip on and taken the damper off since I took those pictures.
Onto the ugly bits...
The paint has a hairline crack at the front of the nose cone, this is probably the most noticable cosmetic fault in the paint.
The cracked hanger, the crack is hidden away enough that wielding it won't look untidy. Alternatively it might be just as cheap to just chase up Harris for a new part, just don't leave it for too long, knacking half a grands worth of exhaust for the sake of a 25 quid ally plate would hurt a bit
Kind of hard to make out until you look closely, but the paint also has split slightly just behind both wing mirrors, If you want to be ultra fussy you'll probably want to pop the trim off the screen and replace that as it's a bit tatty.
The seat covering itself has a tiny split in it about a cm or so in length, it's not gotten worse in the time I've owned the bike so I can only guess that someones snagged the seat with keys in the back pocket or something down the line.
A messy repair to the panel under the seat.
As far as potential swaps go, I'm hoping for something a little lazier but not too big/heavy and that isn't going to cost me a fortune to run, think late low milage Daytona 955i/RST Futura/ZX12/Sprint ST 1050 (if your feeling generous) or something around that ballpark, but I'll consider anything if it's interesting enough, I was due to swap it for an 04 F2 ZX9r with 11k on the clocks but the guy couldn't get a sensible quote on the SP1 due to having an insurance claim last year
*edit* Just to add, I'm not really looking for a cheapy bike and cash, my mule might get jealous
Eitherway, if your interested shoot me a pm, It'll most likely be a week or so before I resort to pasting it up on fleabay. Be safe and cheers for reading this far ____________________ 2010 Triumph 1050 Sprint ST |
