Sat at work, remembering the depressing lump of metal in my garage that is my 1985 BMW K100 Engine.
Got it stripped out late last night (After MUCH swearing, tools going walkies, and eventually breaking out the drill to remove that last F**king bolt) and had the plenum chamber off the top, only to discover what was probably the reason that the guy stopped using the bike in 1991.
Injector number 2 had been removed, and the hole plugged temporarily - when i took the plenum off, the intakes for 1, 3, and 4 are sooty black. The intake for number 2 has a quantity of brown and white, what i can only describe as heavy powder.
The valve stem looks very dirty with the stuff too - my stepdad says it looks emulsified. Is this likely to be oil?
My initial thought was that the head gasket has gone, but thinking about it, that shouldnt fill one of the intakes should it? So moving on, my next logical conclusion would be that the valve seal on number 2 is totally shot...but if thats the case, surely it shouldnt be emulsified?
Either way, i'm going to have to crack it open and have it to bits when i get home - something i was hoping to avoid other than minor fettling. Having bad mental images of much damage yet to discover.
I had the coolant out earlier - it was very dark blue, stank of water that has been sat for 18 years, and has VERY minor oil residue on the surface, which might have already been in the bowl.
Any ideas or suggestions? Nay, scratch that, any ideas? I know what a lot of you guys think about BMW's!lol!
