SORRY I BOUGHT A BORING BANDIT OOPS!

Ok I'm sorry to everybody that loves their bandits.

I had a sv650 fully faired and had to sell 'cos my wrists are not good,

I listerned to many people and bought a '04 Bandit S with 4000 miles on it.
It is spotless, It rides nice, it corners ok, it looks tidy but I can't bond with it at all.
I've done 300 miles on it and I hate it now so much it's got to go.

It is like a washing machine or a fridge, very good at what it does but it is a bit dull.
I won't own a new car 'cos I can't stand them either.

The power delivery is crap, I DON'T want to have to rev something to death just to overtake a car.

I want a bike, I don't want an inline 4 again ever, I loved the engine in the sv650, it was really great ( apart from fuel injection was snatchy)

Has anybody else bought something and hated it. ?????

So Ideas please.

I don't want a 1000, I hate cruisers, can't ride a sports bike 'cos of my wrists need an opperation.

It must be fun, and still be able to use on the very rare occasion I take it to work.
I'm 42 and a moaning git as you may have guessed lol.

If you liked the faired SV650, why not get an unfaired one with the higher bars, or even put the higher bars on a faired one? Job done.

The main thing is, you have admitted your mistake and are not going to spend years trying to convince yourself and others that bandit 600s are just as good or better than other bikes.

I'd suggest a few test rides, maybe start with a fazer 600.

maybe you should have looked at how you have to ride an IL4 compared to a V Twin, yeah you do have to rev them harder to get the same output. 300 miles is hardly enough for me to get to bonds with a bike. I would give it some more time, what have you got to loose? and give that right hand a bit more twist and keep it higher up the rev range, you might fall in love with a screaming bike as much as you obviously do a low grunty v twin.

If you still dont like, why not try getting the SV with the bars instead of the one with clip ons? I know you said you dont want an IL4 again but if you liked the feel of the bandit, try the 1200, much lazier and grunty version of it.

If not why not try something like the KTM Duke or some kind of motard sit up bike.

Try a dl650...sv engine in a different style bike. Ugly as fuck but but comfy. Edit, kinda wish i still had mine, just for the noise.

It's that time, it comes to most of us, some earlier than others. They used to be called Monster Trailies, now Adventure Tourers.
The Varadero is what you need, I know you said you didb't want a 1000cc but take one for a test ride, your wrists will love you, the other half will kiss you, your licence will last a bit longer, the miles and days on the road will just be eaten up. You will wonder why you never did the swap years ago.

I think your expectations for an IL4 600 are a little off really. You will probably find all 600cc IL4 engines need to be revved in order to overtake a car. If you are after effortless overtakes with an IL4 engine then you will probably want a 1000cc minimum engine capacity or stick with a V-twin or a single.

There is a few ideas i had not thought about tbh, like dl650 and the honda.

I test rode the Bandit and 20mins up the road and back seemed fine, but I guess it was not long enough, ( at least it was not a new bike I bought; that would have been expensive)

I will confess to not really liking most naked bikes, but I do like SHAPES like duke3, superduke, and ducati streetfighter etc agressive looking (if you know what I mean)

I have tried a XT660X ( my brother in law has one) and it's not my cup of tea.

I hate the sound of a screaming engine. It does nothing for me.
I think thats why I can't get on with the Bandit.
And I'm no speed freak either, 80 is plenty fast enough for me thank you.

As for pillions, well the wife is 5ft do you think she could get on a DL650 or Varadero ?
If it looks cosy I might get her on!! She has been taking about it.

What are bmw's really like? Is a boxer much different to a v twin in power delivery?

I'd avoid a supermoto for everyday use. They can be painful to maintain and end up costing you money that you'd rather spend on drink. Great fun, but a big trailie sounds like it would suit you.

An SV650 naked with fat bars would be my choice. Get an early carbed one, cheap as chips and dyno jet, race pipe, K and N filter etc. and have a laugh.

I am similar to you and am having trouble dealing with the jump (backwards it feels like) from a 650 twin to a 600 4. I know the 4 is more powerful but there is nothing there below 8k. The SV would kick from 3.5k and still run to 11k. Doesn't seem worth it to have the extra 3k top end for the vast yawning gap between the motors idle and anything actually happening in the 600.

The supermoto club was out for a ride around the Island yesterday, there were a bunch of tricked out Husqs, Husabergs, CRFs, RMs, an XR650, an Aprilia SXV and a couple of KTMs.

To be frank, the KTMs looked plain amongst that company.

I'm hearing this, I've got a naked Bandit 650 as a courtesy bike at the moment and I can't really bond with it.

It's ok, fun enough, but constantly searching for revs means it's actually slower around town than my old CB500 (although I admit that I knew exactly how to ride the CB, whereas I'm still learning with the bandit).

I also don't like the way it snatches at low speed / revs - I've had to put my feet down a couple of times when the throttle unexpectedly closed and the bike started to topple (of course, it could just be the way I ride).
