So I was on my way to 6th form at lunch time earlier today when I turn down this road and can hear shouting over my iPod. I take my headphones out and there is what appears to be a couple arguing with a young kid. The guy couldn't of been much older than late twenties but the woman looked a bit older. Anyways I thought none of my business and carried on walking past them. It appeared as if the woman was trying to get the kid and go and the guy was stopping her. By this stage the kid is very distressed and crying it's eyes out. The guy then starts pushing the woman away. So I stopped and watched the situation. She was getting up in his face so I could understand it in one way but pushing her wasn't necessary. I was tempted to say something. Anyways it was clear that it wasn't going to escolate any further so I carried on and went to 6th form. I was in a suit and shoes too so if it turned into a fight I'm in a disadvantage straight away over the guy in tracksuit bottoms.

I was tempted to say something but I've heard a few stories where people split up an argument between a couple, it turns into a fight. By the time it goes to court, they are back together and they both say you lamped the guy for no reason.

The other thing was there were two builders just sitting in their Transit van just watching. So anyway, what would you have done?

a) Tried to split it up and resolve it peacefully.
b) Lamped the guy.
c) Mind your own business.

A) tried to split it up depending on the severity, if it was already too far gone to be negociated i wouldnt get involved, as id go in there and then get done for affray or assault or whatever its called these days.
In that situation A and then if no ball followed by B i suppose..

Well I was talking about the whole splitting the couple thing up with my Dad a little while back. He said there was a famous story of a guy stepping in and a fight broke out. Went to court, couple were back together and he got charged. He said if it's that bad then call the Police. It wasn't that bad but still I believe pushing a woman infront of her child (I presume) is wrong.

I'd have kept well clear, In most circumstances if you get involved the guy will most likely totally forget he's arguing with his missus and before you know it you've got a fight on your hands. If it escalates so far as the guy hitting the girl, Then I'd most definitely get involved. Even if I just lock the guy up until the police come (If they've been called).. That way, You've done no harm to anyone, In effect all you have done is a citizen arrest.

Sometimes you see this sort of shit and think, God, I'd love to teach that guy a lesson.

All valid choices, but I'm going for the obvious one which for some reason you've missed off your list.

d) Rape the kid and give it something to really cry about.

I'd jog on, fuck all to do with me, and a lot of the times these situations can turn into both the guy and girl coming at you!

Depends what you mean by 'push' as well, was it a push, or a shove (there is a difference!), because if he pushed her properly she;d have been on her arse or sprawled on the floor..... by you're account it's not like he gave her a taste of the back of his hand or anything, so I'd have tottered on really, I've watched couples go right at each other for 2 hours, then 10 mins of quiet followed by them walking off holding hands, it's crazy what couples do to each other.

If the guy's pushed the woman - and indeed, previously stopped her from leaving - there is an offence there, and the police could/should be called.

Domestics (as this seems to be) are treated quite seriously as although most of them are a load of old pony, some end up in serious assaults or murder.

If you rang Old Bill and said a couple were fighting in the street and a child was involved units would attend 'on the I'. However when they tracked the couple down it's more than even odds that both parties would refuse to make any statements or allegations.

More police time wasted because people can't get their shit together or keep their private life private - and another kid's life gets slowly fooked up. Not to mention the inconvenience of your banging-tune listening session being interrupted! Wink

Sadly, as others have pointed out, if you intervene you are more likely to be turned on by both parties than be hailed as a hero by the 'victim'.

Unless you could see the kid was in danger you are usually best staying well out of these things.

Yeah. Like I said, I slowed down to see if it escolate at all. He was saying something like "You started on me first" then she replied "No I f*cking didn't you liar!".

The guys in the van didn't seem bothered anyway.

Conclusion, unpaused my iPod and got into school on time.
