Its a kawasaki AR125.
It pulled to about 75ish last week and then ran out of petrol
I'd start checking stuff like the carb cos i dunno how long that guy had it for and he was fairly blank abouts its years of history |

Hi
The AR has fairly small ports so should give the piston and rings a fairly easy time. They could have failed, but not that likely (unless you have been reving the engine hard from cold).
Basically first give it a good service. Clean the air filter, clean the exhaust out, put a new plug in, put fresh petrol in, change the gearbox oil and then see how it goes
All the best

If you had to switch to reserve at some point, then there's a chance some crap from the bottom of the tank managed to make it's way to the carbs.
Does it feel as though bike is running out of fuel? ____________________ TiN

Well you did say a very silly thing, didn't you.
I assume the throttle cable is tight and is working the carb?
When you cleaned it did you assemble the needles, jets etc correctly? ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

Hi
Your bike is quite old, and possibly hasn't been used for a while. Water accumulates in the petrol and rusts the tank, and the rust gets into the carb.
I would clean the carb out again and put a fuel filter in. I would also be tempted to drain the fuel tank full, and only put back in the decent fuel (you will probably see "bubbles" at the bottom of the fuel which is water).
Also your AR doesn't have a power valve. Depending on what has been done to it in the past (such as a Micron exhaust) it is quite likely that the power will come in with a bang at high revs. As such you soon get used to slipping the clutch loads when you move off.
For 2 squeak oil just use a decent quality normal 2 stroke oil. I wouldn't worry about using synthetic 2 squeak oil in it. Not the 2 squeak oil will go in a tank, the gearbox has its own seperate oil.
All the best

Thanks Keith!
The oil light is telling me the 2 stroke oil is low then? Does it use any other oil/need any other oil changing apart from the gearbox oil?
Also, any ideas why when the bike was doing a maxium of 20mph hardly any slipping of the clutch was needed, it'd pull away easy with almost no revs.
How would you suggest that the tank is emptied? Also, where can i get a fuel filter, where would it go, and would it affect performance?
Thanks |

And a few more questions,
Do you know where the adjustment for the idle rpm is?
Are there any other adjustments? I was told there was one for the amount of air getting in, or something similar?
What make spark plug should I buy, or doesn't it matter?
And finally, how can i clean out the exhaust, and is it a good idea?
Thanks very much! |
