Hi so I've had my little cg125 for about 6 months now, and I'm riding it on a CBT. It seems dreadfully slow, and now really a bit boring. I was convinced to buy it by so many reviews and stories of how reliable the bikes are. My experience is that mine is dreadfully slow, and in the six months I've had it, on both of the rideouts I've been on, the damn thing has broken down. One only 10 or so miles away from home, and the other about 60 miles away, having blown a 50p size hole in the piston.

Anyway, I'm now bored of the bike, and want to take my A1 and A2, until I can source a cheap 500 (I'm only 19 and Bandit 500s seem to be highly recomended for new riders), I'm reluctant to get myself a few lessons and take my test because of the expense when all it will mean for some time is that I can take L plates off. (I understand that my riding will also be of a higher standard, and that means I'll be less of a danger to myself and other road users, but what I mean is that I'll have no L plates, but I'll still be toddling along at 50mph in 5th gear hoping that I don't break down again.
So, I decided to make the best of what I've got, to respray my bike and tidy it up a bit. I say respray; I'm aware that would largely devalue the bike, so instead I got hold of spare body parts and a tank and decided I'd respray those instead and keep the originals.

So I set about stripping them down following instructions from various sources on the net. Sanding and using paint stripper. Then I primed the tank with primer, and the plastic rear peice with plastic primer, then I gave them a coat of enamel metalic black, then about 4 or 5 coats of satin black, and about 2 coats of normal laquer, then applied the decals, and finnally, 2 coats of petrol resistant laquer. I'm going to give them a good waxing to bring out the shine.
Anyways here's some pics;

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?

i like the black it looks great, the speed doesnt really bother me, i get 60MPH in 5th, cant overtake anything (apart from a caravan, he he he Razz ) but it works and i think they are great bikes, you never know in 20 years time you might long for another cg125 Wink you prob wont be able to ride it, with petrol being £10 a litre but its a bit of your youth

I went on a short ride in the dark tonight (About 20 miles) and the damn thing cut out twice!
Once on a dark country road, not the best of places to break down on, but I was going down a steep hill and was braking, of course while braking applying no throttle. Towards the bottom of the hill the bike just cut out, the lights went off, and I rolled to the bottom where I pulled in, gave it a minute or so to cool down, and kickstarted it again.
Then when I was back about a mile or so away from home, I stopped at a roundabout, and as I went to pull off I made SURE I was in first, and pulled of giving it plenty of revs, and it stuttered and stopped. When I got home it was very very very hot, and seemed as though it had been working very hard and revving very high at any speed over 40mph.
Frustrating, because I'd love to go on a long rideout with the bike, but I don't have enough trust in it, and my old man (whos ridden bikes for many a year), seems to think there's nothing wrong with it.

I think I've either outgrown this bike, or the bike is mechanically unsound. Nevertheless, for running around town, it's wonderful, Very quick off the lights beating most cars, and easy to nip around on filtering through traffic. I like the fact that in second and third gear it surprises people, as they see L plates and expect to hear a lawn mower zip past, but get the gargle of the battered old 4 stroke.

Comparing your experiences with others that I have read about here, I would for sure say that your bike has issues. My advice would be to head over to the tech section and either read up on other CG problems or make a post of your own. Get an owners manual for it and try to find out what the problem is. Your dad may be telling you nothing is wrong so he doesn't have to mess with it. Its your bike, time for you to start wrenching on it. You've made it look pretty now make it reliable.
Oh.. and the black looks good. Cool

Having holed a piston and run hot all the time, i'd say it's running rich. Have you checked the air filter? Make sure it's not all clogged up?

Could try fiddling with the mixture screw. Could how many screws out it is at the moment so you can put it back if you cock it up Smile.
