Tyres for my bike

Well after doing a fair old amount of motorway miles plus others, my rear tyre is starting to look a little flat.

So I'm going to be replacing them (when I get some money ) but what with is the question?

I need something that is relatively hard wearing, wet weather use will be minimum so not a real issue, but I must have good grip in the dry/morning damp etc.

SO what do people suggest?

I'll be changing both tyres this time around as I have no confidence really in the front, so want something that inspires confidence.

The bike for those who don't know is a CBR 600 FY year 2000 model.

BT020s give good life and good grip, I belive they are a dual compound so be quite good on motorway miles, but still don't expcet more than about 6k out of one.

010s do the same thing but stickier, only soft compound I think, expect more like 4k from one of them.

Michelin macadams. They last for ever. Fine in the dry, but not much feedback from them. I have one of them on the back, and a michelin hi-sport on the front, which is a good combination for me. Never had them in the wet, what with it being all hot and the tyres being new, but i don't expect too much. They were fine in morning damp on my 3am commute.

Dunlop D207s are good too, but I think they are more of a sporting tyre like the 010.

So yeh. If its sports mileage you want, BT-020 is probably your best bet. They should be cheapest off of www.motorbike-tyres.com

Dunlop 207Fs are fairly cheap and should last longer than most sports tyres. I've got them on the Blade and I definately feel confident with them. Don't get them confused with the stickier 207RRs.

I've got 010s on the same beastie - yes, they don't last quite as well as some others, although I got more than 4k off my last rear doing mostly motorway riding, but they're absolutely excellent for grip. Had them on for the track day with absolutely no problems.

For the price of replacing them a little more often versus knowing that you're not going to run out of grip, I'm sticking with them for the foreseeable future.

If you do opt for an 020 on the back, certainly get an 010 on the front.

Well, I had 207's on my R6 and I have 010's on the Triple, The 010's are definately more 'grippy' in the dry, but compared to the 207 are nowhere near as good in the wet. The 010's seem to be wearing down a lot quicker than the 207's ever used to, so I guess they are a little softer than the 207's. Next time I have to change I might try the new 208's!?

i found that the 207s are shit in the wet and tend to skip a lot.

a good combination is 010 front and an 020 rear and they should last about the samwe time, or the front a little longer!

Hi

Think how tyres react in the wet is very much down to the bike setup. Softer sprung bikes are better in the wet. Only bike I have ridden with D207 tyres on it (and RR ones at that) is the Bimota which has firm suspension and is not amusing in the wet

no usually front lasts 3 times the rear does if your not a wheelie/stoppie man

but if your a long journey/commuter/fun 020 rear and 010 front is good,

if your all fun! 010 both!

I'm gonna need a rear tyre soon aswell. We could see if we could do a deal to save us some money. I'm running the dunlops at the moment.
