I am thinking of trading in my 125, however my insurance to ride my other bike is only there because my 125 insurance allows me to ride any other bike.

If I traded it in, when would the insurance for the bike become invalid? From the date I put on the form that it is transferred to the dealer or until the registered keeper is changed in the DVLA Database?

Cheers.

Don't think you'll be covered to ride you other bike as I'd expect your insurance covers you to ride other peoples bikes rather than other bikes owned by you.

Seeing as officially you're not meant to keep a policy going when you've sold the vehicle I'd have thought your cover to ride other peoples bikes will stop being valid as soon as you've sold your bike.

IMO if you're in doubt about something insurance related then check with your insurance company rather than BCF.

.

I take it then that you do not own the other bike..... Or is it a multi-bike policy Confused

You just need to take out a policy to cover the other bike and you will be fine. Thumbs Up

600 Is insured via. my Dad so legally I'm insured to ride it TPO.

I was thinking it would stop being valid which is why I was asking.

Cheers.

I would be incredibly surprised if that's true. Otherwise, every Jack and Harry with a litre sportsbike would just buy a CG 125 and cover their top rated sports bike for £80 a year on the CG insurance.

Third party cover on other bikes is there to facilitate you to ride other peoples' bikes with their permission. It does not cover you for bikes that you own unless you specifically add it to your policy as a multi bike policy. If you do that, then you pay the premium price for the highest risk bike and an admin fee to add a second bike.

If you do have a multi bike policy, you simply need to phone your insurer and make the bike you're keeping your primary vehicle. You'll probably have to pay a fee, but the policy will continue as scheduled.

If you ride the 600 regularly, then you should be a named rider on your dads insurance, or it should be a named bike on your insurance.

If you sell your bike, then your insurable interest in it ceases and your policy is cancelled regardless of whether you cancel it or otherwise.

Read your change of risk or interest clause within policy wording. It will go along the lines of:
The policy shall be avoided if
a) the Insured's interest ceases

Enjoy your incredible surprise.

I was just wondering whether or not if I trade in the bike the insurance ceases, which it does, so that's my question answered.

Cheers!

You did say it was "my other bike" in your first post.

Nonetheless, there's almost certainly an exception in the small print to bikes kept at the same address/ridden by you regularly/owned by family.

I'm assuming you did your A2, so your Dad's bike is restricted, right? Wink

Hi

For a short term you might get away with it (ie, just selling one and buying another). Long term I suspect it would be unacceptable. However what you are doing is already a major fiddle, the kind of fiddle the insurance companies are well aware of and which would trigger them to try and avoid paying. Make it even more obvious and they really could get nasty.

Put it this way, what you are already doing is like walking through a field with a bull in it. What you are proposing to do is like changing into a red costume and then pulling the bulls tail.

All the best

Keith
