Got in from work tonight to a lovely letter from Northumbria Police Fixed Penalty Unit Sad

Apparently I was caught doing flaming 36mph in a 30 zone Rolling Eyes

The road I was photo'd on has a fairly steep hill coming down towards a roundabout, as I came over the brow of the hill the van was hidden behind a tyre garage on my right handside (didn't find this out until tonight) supposedly this is now a regular spot for them Shocked

Obviously as you come over the brow of the hill your speed may increase slightly with the decline towards the roundabout, I don't normally go that fast on this particular road due to not being able to see anything until you hit the brow of the hill, I normally ease off the throttle a bit but on this occasion it seems not enough.

Now, can I expect a £60 fine and 3 points or is it likely they'll offer me the chance to go on a "Speed Awareness" course baring in mind I wasn't going excessively fast?

I thought they only offered speed awareness if you were pulled over.

I wasn't given the speed awareness option when I was done by a camera. It may have changed now though, I was done 2 years ago.

(Only 1 more year until the points go!!)

Not sure tbh about the Speed Awareness, a neighbor said they got offered it when caught on camera but that's why I thought I'd ask on here whether it was the norm or not.

The camera was hanging out the back window of a van and not the fixed type, not that it makes any difference.

Just read your thread, unlucky mate but think I'll stick with the 36 in a 30!

I was offered speed course for 37 in 30,
So your within the threshold to do it, its just whether the police in your area decide to offer you it!
