Briefly, bike has been running smoothly for 8months that i've had it. It packed in and thought i'd stalled it (was in heavy, slow traffic heading uphill). It now won't start. I was foolish in letting the engine oil level get low so i thought that's what the problem might be so topped it up. Plenty petrol, checked all the cables, wires etc for loose ones. Engine just won't turn over. Ran battery down in trying to start it, recharged battery and two days later still no joy.

I'm such a novice and had to fork out £65 to get it towed safely home after pushing it for a couple of miles (uphill Sad ). Any help Please!!

take out your spark plug, pour some oil down there... you definately want to check it isnt seized.
Can you push the bike at all in gear? like forcing it? just plop in 2nd and try to push it should sound like its sucking in air through spark plug hole.

Cheers, i'll try that.

We did previously check the sparkplug and bought a new one as it looked a bit weatherbeaten. It doesn't seem to give a spark too often, even with the new one in (my partner checked it and said this, like i said, i'm novice!).

Ta for advice, i'll let you know how i get on.

When you say the engine won't turn over, do you mean it won't turn over, or it wont fire?

so you can press the starter and its like trying to start but wont actually go VROOOOM?
lol

If so check your fuel lines...if its the carbed model..check the float bowls are getting fuel, if they are check the jets.. if they arent getting guel it could be a blockage in the fuel line or fuel tap could be off Razz or on main tank and only have enough for reserve

I think you should book it in to a dealer or mechanic or have a family member who knows how to use spanners to look at it, if you have let it starve from oil then the piston and barrel will be heavily scored and you'll be losing alot of compression meaning you won't get it to start.

When was it last serviced? Whats to say your plug hasn't died on you?

regarding this post..you could take plug out and put thumb over the hole...does it really force your thumb off?

Yes it will force your thumb off, but even a low compression engine/barrel can do this as i found out at work with a speedfight 2 50cc that needed a new barrel and piston and other things.

Exactly why I never reccomend the thumb over the spark plug hole to test for compression.

personally i would (if carb) drain the float chamber of petrol, this will basically pull all the shit out with it. make sure theres fuel in it (silly i know but alot of people do not realise that fuel evaporates quite fast ha.

if you have already tried a new plug, try replacing the HT leads. if there is still no joy try new coils.

after that im stumped! ha

always remember to try the cheapest option first.

i had pretty much the same problem with my hornet yesterday. was turning over but there just wasnt a VROOOOMMM!

i just went out got 4 new plugs. wacked um in and first time on the button i had life Very Happy
