Hi guys as winter closes in, and the morning's drop below freezing (brrrrrrrrr), and the summer riders tuck there bikes up till next year.

I want to ask the hardcore riders like myself there opinions on winter clothing and gloves and stuff.

I ride everyday wind, rain, sleet and snow on motorways for an hour, so need some good gear, any advice, or sites to look at welcome, mainly gloves, i dont like mitten's on bikes so there out of question.

I ride a gsx 650 f does anyone know of things like wind protectors to fit on for your hands?

daytona heated grips will keep your hands warm.

i find several thin layers work best. I wear a textile jacket with an inner liner, on top of a fleece over a jumper and shirt.

padded textile trousers with a liner over normal trousers. Most of the time i just wear bog standard waterproof plastic overtrousers as these do a good enough job keeping the wind and water out.

boots are DMs.

spraying textile clothing with Fabsil keeps the water out.

bar muffs make a big difference. try to forget what they look like.

What are you wearing at the moment? and whats your budget?

Saw some hand guards in a mag, though I think they were for a particular supermoto...just searched "hand guards supermoto" on google and got loads of results. Not sure of fitting but cost was from £30 up to £100..

i'm wearing a textile suit with waterproof over's and i found some good gloves, there held gortex, the ones that make your hand's look like a teenage mutant ninja turtle lol,

They are good but i swear i get close to getting stage one frostbite in my fingertips

I know mittens are pretty good but they are so hideous, that why i thought of wind shields of some sort. dont really have a budget, any price is worth saving my fingers.

I have Cold Killers, they're undergloves you wear under your normal gloves, they work really well. Apart from that, just put the liner back in my jacket and I'm good to go.

A few times last week it was about 5 degrees when I got up for work (6am) and my fingers were dropping off by the time I got in. It'll just get worse from here on in.

Would realy help if cisport had a working website......

I hate nothing more than finding a product like this from a manufacture, then find that you have no end of trouble in getting any info on the product (price) from the supplier......

I guess i will just have to email and find out what they charge....

The tight nike pro compression tops as a base layer work really well at keeping you warm.
i have a set of gloves from gp leathers that have kept me really warm so far. My hands started to get cold after about an hour or so at 100mph and 12 at night. My hands never got to the frostbite cold stage even after another hour of riding at high speeds. plus these gloves were only about £20-30.
The most important tip is to keep your main body warm with many layers. When your main body gets cold, the rest of your body gets cold bringing blood back from your extremes to keep your body warm

I have a pair of generic handguards from a salvage yard on the Superrat, needed a bit of work with a knife to make them fit but help a lot.

I also run with a pair of lobsterclaw gloves from Hein Gericke in winter, best £35 I spent bikewise.

Good thick hiking socks go into my boots, and if I am feeling daring they will actually get a dubbing at the start of winter to keep the weather out.

On my body I will tend to wear a tshirt, jumper and fleece under my leather possibly with my waterproof trousers over my jeans depending on the distance I am travelling temperature outside.

Nobody mentioned long johns?!
My uncle used to wrap himself with a newspaper and wear a jacket over it. Good old days..

Winter in London only requires long johns under draggin jeans and an extra layer under my leather jacket, cant be bothered with full waterproofs since I only commute for 40 mins max, and have yet to get a decent soaking. I was also suggested to use an underlayer under my summer gloves which have also worked wonders.

Done this before but what the hell.

Cotton trunks.
Technical ski-ing base layer
string vest
short sleeve t-shirt
long sleeve t-shirt
hoodie
neoprene "parlour top" smock
Leather jacket.
Swedish army issue long johns
Bellstaff leather jeans
Dutch army gore-tex overtrousers
cheap tesco value socks
British army infantry socks
British army assault boots
Hein Gericke Master 4 gloves

Riding a heavily laden 750cc sports bike on a snowbound forestry comission track? Possible but not recommended.

And another tip for those winter riders, be sure to have a nice warm meal in you before setting on any long trips. Smile

I usually find that my chest and upper body is most important to keep warm, my fingers will always go cold first - I was once out on a 170mile night ride lacking an extra layer or two. Shaking from cold to the point of wanting to pull over on the hard shoulder is not fun. As of late, I will always overdress when riding, so long as it is comfortable and manouvering is unhindered.

I still use my sports gloves, just got a pair of inners in them (can be bought under a 10 note on the ebay) seem to do the job, it's textile season and you may want a pair of textile waterproof trousers also -- even though im still in my jeans and getting nice and cold.

Thermal base layer (Edz)
2x T-shirts
summer leathers
2 pairs of socks
1-peice waterproofs.

The waterproofs make the biggest difference, because they are totally windproof.

I had a good pai of winter gloves, but my hands still used to get frozen, as did my feet. Waterproof boots are a must as well! I highly rate the A* SMX-5WP boots.

Also, if you don't have any other transport, riding your bike through winter doesn't make you hardcore Laughing Hardcore is when you do it by choice. But tbh, you can keep your numb hands, I'll take the car. Thumbs Up Smile

£30 is expensive for handguards. I picked up some brand new Polisport Freeflows for £10 delivered off eBay.
