Posted: 00:01 - 18 Oct 2009 Post subject: How to approach neighbours about noise. |
 |
|
A new couple have moved in above us, They like to party on Friday and Saturday nights which I have no problems with.
It's the fact they have their speakers sat on tile floors (Should have never had tile floors put in a 1st floor apartment in the first place)
Anyway, I'm starting to wonder what is worse, Listening to them race across their tile floors on a chair or my mrs telling me I should go and do something about the noise every 5 mins.
It actually didn't bother me until tonight as i'm quite laid back and can appreciate a good party as long as it doesn't take the piss, but it seems they've went too far and I can feel myself burning up inside as I sit here listening to their front door slamming, car horns beeping and people ringing the buzzer every 2 mins, I not only have a 4 month old child who does get unsettled due to the noise and as a result the other half is nagging at me to do something about it.
Shall I simply call up and ask politely if they can sort this shit out sensibly, or phone a mate to call down and accompany me at their door, try the same approach and if that doesn't work just knock some cunt out, smash their sound system up, shortly after flushing the guys head down the toilet whilst rubbing excrement in his eyes? |

Introduce yourself, gage whether hes a pleb or not and tel him you have waited and nows the time to bring the subject up and that they need to take measures to lesson the intrusion.
I live next to a old peoples home, but im still loud often, im mindful of the time, the noise and keeping doors and windows closed aswell as going in the garden to gage how much noise is coming through.
After you have had a polite word, the next time it happens to the same extent, go round and tell him to leave the volume at the same and bring him to yours to demonstrate ...
After this if it continues and especially if he is a pleb taking the piss then get angry ...
You can complain officially if it continues aswell, as noise nuisance as they call it is a no no nowadays ... shame but true.

Is it a rented place? If so, move.
There is no peace to be found living below someone, ever.
You will tell them one evening, and it might sort the problem for a few hours, then next friday/saturday it will be the same.
If they are renting also then it is hardly their problem that the floors are tiled/laminate rather than carpet, put yourself in their shoes, if you lived above somebody would you really give a fuck? Answer, no.
The cops will do nothing until the wee small hours or until such a time as you are rocking slowly in your chair with a loaded shotgun, eyes glazed over with rage. ____________________ So in other words, he stopped you for being flagrantly in posession of a motorcycle in direct contravention of the Hippies, Darkies and People Whose Face I Don't Like The Look of (Police Powers) Act. 1976 |

When Ayasha was two or three we had the people in the flat next to us start one of their loud parties. Usually they'd tone it down by about 1am, so we put up with it. And they weren't particularly frequent. People need to party occasionally, live and let live etc.
One night however it was still going strong at 3am-ish, and it was proper loud, so much so Ayasha woke up and was crying. So I thumped on the wall, thinking to let them know it was out of order and to tone it down. The cheeky cvnts banged back instead. After a couple more bouts of banging back and forth I got my extremely powerful stereo and put the speakers right up against the wall, found some operatic hell on the FM and blasted it at them, for about ten minutes initially. Turned it down...silence...then they cranked it up again. I then gave it to them for three solid hours. We never heard another peep from them, ever. It was highly gratifying. Noriko did have to shut herself upstairs in my attic-den with Ayasha though.
Nobody can enjoy music when some other music is clashing with it, especially if it's opera. It's a tactic worth bearing in mind. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

Sounds like my neighbour, parties till 4 am and constant people coming and going (probably dealing i expect). I found out who the private owner of the rented house was and using google i found out his business telephone number, then got his mobile. I rang him up and said if you dont sort your tenants out i'll be round your house doing exactly what they do and since then i havent heard a fucking peep out of my neighbours.
Look on land registry to find out who the owners of the property are if its privately rented, might be better going to the top before kicking off with your neighbour. I sympathise with you big time, inconsiderate twats like that need to be euthanized. ____________________ Cbr1100xx blackbird gone, mk4 golf gt tdi chav now

How strange
so some of you think that the best way to reduce noise levels from the flat upstairs is to blast some earpiercing opera tunes from your own property in retaliation....FLMAO
yeah that`s gonna work

I think Hetz was just sharing his experiance Max.
I lived in a hell hole like that, it was beside alcholics who the landlord moved in after he kicked out the drug dealers I used to answer buzzers at all hours to pissed people and they cant get in unless someone buzzes them. Once I pretended I was god and this alcho actually believed me he was repenting for all the crap things he had done and promicing to change his ways.
found another pissing on my door one morning, piss seeping under my door I moved. That and the damp cold flat which was meant to be luxery flat had the better of me. I hate neighbors and have a detached house now. ____________________ All the breast.

I try to be completely tolerant of my neighbours but I've always been lucky. My current neighbour has just bought a sub for their TV, they seem to think that Coronation Street is going to be enhanced by having loads of bass, they obviously haven't realised that fake nasal Northern whine has no bass in it at all.
I don't complain though, as I do a lot of darts practice and I'm sure they can hear that, even though I'm at the other side of our house, away from them. It must sound like the world's most arthritic woodpecker They never complain to us though, even though we had a few mates round in the summer and were out in the back garden until late, so it's a bit of give and take.
I can imagine that an arsehole neighbour is the worst situation in the world. I would advocate the softly, softly approach though, as kicking off is likely to get the same response back.
Cheers

Reminds me of something on the news a while ago when authorities used Guns and Roses Welcome to the Jungle to drive Manuel Noriega out of the Vatican Embassy in Panama.
| https://www.wnew.com/guns_n_roses/ wrote: | Welcome to the Jungle gained international attention when it was one of the songs (indeed, the lead-off song) blasted at the Vatican embassy by U.S. troops during the operation to oust dictator Manuel Noriega, who had gone to ground there. Cited by some as psychological warfare aimed at irritating the opera-loving, hard-rock-hating Noriega into surrender, the military later revealed the principal reason for the heavy-metal barrage was to disrupt the parabolic microphones of nearby media vans who were trying to listen in on the sensitive negotiations going on inside. A happy side-effect of this was that Welcome to the Jungle and its ilk were reportedly a real morale-booster for U.S. troops on the scene. |

Had the same problem, we're end terrace and adjoining house is rented, we've had 4 neighbours so far, 1 good, 3 noisy initially, first lot asked politely, they apologised, quiet ever since.
Current lot (bunch of fat scousers) tolerated until midnight on weekends then usually quietened but two Saturdays ago, 4:00am loud music starts blaring out, quietly seethe for 10 minutes, get dressed, hammer on door - "will you turn off your ***king music it's 4:00 in the morning" - "sorry it's our kids birthday", "I don't give a ***t I'm trying to sleep" - peace and quiet. Quite restrained I thought. It's a real sh*tter living next door to rented house as 90% of them don't give a sh*t. What gets on my tits is the other neighbours must get annoyed too but do nothing.
So, to summarise, always try reasonable approach but with a little inappropriate punctuation to show you're not a wendy then escalate to landlord if that fails. Wouldn't bother with police. |

Maybe they have no idea of how crap the build quality and insulation of our houses is, and how that causes noise to travel through the building. |
'Never attribute to malice, that which can be adequately explained by stupidity'
I reckon that 9 times out of 10 the people involved don't know they are being a pain, it's the 1 out of 10 who just don't give a shit. We're end of terrace and, with the exception of the sub-woofer, we never hear our neighbours. They commented recently that they didn't need an alarm because they hear my other half plugging her hair straighteners in every morning but it was said in jest and, as the houses are mirrored, their bedroom is just through the wall from ours.
Most people are decent, if given the chance, the ones that aren't can be intolerable though.
Cheers
