should I lacquer my engine block?

I intend to touch up the tank in good time.

However, I'm not sure if I can be bothered to touch up the engine.

I thought I might just lacquer (with gunk clear lacquer) the parts where the paint has peeled to stop it getting worse. Good idea?
(this will stop me fussing with primers and fillers, etc)
