peugeot help

hi i'v got a peugeot xps 50 on a 04 plate with just under 14,000km on it , i have been told that i will need to change the piston at 15,000 km ? Is this something common or is the bloke having me on?

I take it that it's a 2-stroke then? They need a top end rebuild every 10,000 or so miles but if the piston is still in good condition then I don't think it needs replaced, maybe just the piston rings? I'm not a 2-stroke fanatic, but post in the workshop section and you'll get a better answer.
