What are your opinions on this? https://belfast.gumtree.com/belfast/38/47739038.html
Hope the link works, if not it's under the ad GS500ey for sale.
He's had it from new. Been used as a workhorse tool. 25,000 miles.
What are your opinions on it? Does the price sound ok? What should I be looking out for on one of these?
Any help is much appreciated.
Many thanks

With my limited knowledge of bikes (only had 3 since i started riding) it looks ok.
Probably a fair price given the years mot and if the consumables are all in decent nick. Would always try to knock something off what its advertised for though.
Go and have a look and so long there is nothing glaringly obviously wrong with it then make him a cheeky offer if its what you're after ____________________ Harold_Shand wrote: I suppose it's like anything, you get your fingers burned when you start out, you learn from it and eventually become a complete arsehole about the whole thing. |

Heya, GS500 motors rattle like a goodun at the best of times, mine almost sounds like a diesel at tickover but smooths out nicely once I'm past 2k rpm. Best thing you can do is gauge how well the guys kept on top of the servicing really.
They don't seem to crash too well (Mines evidently had a pretty hard knock and the evidence is plain as day) so check for dents and marks around the tank and frame and factor that in accordingly. Get it on the center stand and check the condition of the swing arm, bearings and chain too.
Be sure to check the oil levels and what sort of shape the stuff is in too, if the bike smokes or leaks oil it's just not worth the hassle on a bike this cheap. You'll find a newer tidier bike for the money it'll cost you to sort.
Imho getting an improved rear shock on the thing is the single best thing you can do to these, with a stock shock in fairly decent shape the bike simply felt like it had a flat rear tyre all the time, swapping it out for an RGV250 shock gained me an inch of ride height on the rear and transformed the bikes stance and ride ____________________ 2010 Triumph 1050 Sprint ST |

I am very happy with my GS, paid 50 quid more than that one, but i needed a bike asap!
Had engine swap at 12,000 miles due to someone ruining it, but its now done 14k on a new engine, not missed a beat!
Has yr MOT and yr tax, new fork seals, tyres and C&S..so pretty much like yours!
All i can say is dont expect lots of power, its adequate for what it is, it pull happily to 80 and onwards to 100mph isnt a mission, but its not sports bike
All in all a pretty good deal and damn cheap on insurance!!
As said, check oil, rattles, any dents where there definately shouldnt be dents...check forks for straightness..But aside from that if it seems good, by all means grab it, they are workhorses! |
